Commercial Description:
"Vintage 2005"
Our PGR has aged for 24 months on oak barrels and has been bottled for the first time on the 27th of December 2007. The main difference with the Pannepot Reserva is that PGR matured the last ten months on Calvados oak barrels, adding extra complexity to the beer. We dedicate this beer as a tribute to Jeppe & Michael of Řlbutikken in Denmark. Those gentlemen were the first to discover our beers on an International basis back in 2004 and are responsable somehow for our beers being all over the globe since then. As a token of gratitude towards Jeppe & Michael, the first shipment of PGR was scheduled to Řlbutikken so they could be the first to launch its commercialisation.

Bottled. Murky brown colour with pretty big, longlasting, beige head(tulip glass). Aroma is predominantly from the Calvados, after are waves of oak, berries and fruits. No alcohol detected here - the alcohol is overall nowhere to find. Tad sourish smell, probably from the effect of the apples. The backbone in mouthfeel is surprisingly light(due to the oak), which is good here, I found the other 3 Pannepot very sweet. Apples dominate the flavour, along with a woody tone, that is pleasantly acidic. This is a very good beer, although none from the Pannepot-line is on my top 100-list.

Bottle 2005. Brown color with a beige head. Really vinous aroma with lots of oak in it. Taste is fruity and spicey with plenty of acidity and some warming alcohol.

Bottle (33 cl) from Systembolaget. Murky brown with a medium beige head. Quite complex aroma with vinous notes, oak, dark fruits and berries. Medium bodied and quite smooth, but with a light prickling carbonation. Quite dry, but there is also a quite strong acidic bite in the finish wihich I do not find entirely pleasant. The least good Pannepot i.m.o.

From a lableless 75 cl bottle. Pours a very dark brown beer with a fine light-brown creamy and longlasting foam on top. Aroma is very trappist like(Rochefort) and has lots of different aspects going on. It smells like Coffee, bread, port, sweet dough, raisins apples (Calvados) and wood. Taste is very similar to the aroma. The beer is mild, not to sweet, slight bitter, like coffee bitters and hops. Mouthfeeling is mild and soft malty with a nice touch of wood, dryed sliced apple, some banana and good boos soaked raisins. Not as sweet and a bit more dry as the regular pannepot, but very complex and the afthertaste is superb. Thanks to the Struise guys for letting me taste this one from a champage size bottle.

It pours a dark chestnut color, almost black in my large Des Fagnes glass, with a medium sized head, persistent. Mild aroma, with sour chocolate, wood, cedar. Good body; there is a caramel and candi sugar flavor, with sweet liquorice; it has a too low bitterness. At the end, there is some warming alcohol feeling. Good, big, but lacking complexity, excitement.

Poured an almost clear deep ruby-brown color with a large long lasting tan head. Semi-sweet malty aroma with notes of dark fruits, brown sugar, wood, cola and a yeasty spice. The flavor was semi-dry with some mild dark fruits and a woody drier finish. The end starts to thin a little. Medium bodied. For 10% it just slides right down with not alcohol taste and just some light warmth.

First bottle of BrianK’s 25th Birthday tasting. Pours an amber brown body with a thin tan head. Aroma is boozy with some spices present. Flavor is much less spiced then the regular pannepot. Spices, etoh, oak, and an undesirable metallic flavor.

Amber red color with a tan head that quickly dissipates to a ring around the glass. Smell is of green apple, spices, and some wood. Taste consists of caramel, toffee, spices, clove, but this is also very metallic; even moreso than the regular reserva. Light bodied with a rather high carbonation. I’d try this again, but I don’t know that I’d seek it out. It seems like I’d just stick with regular Pannepot over any of the reservas. Thanks to pepsican for the sample.
