beerbuzzmontreal (2909), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jun 10, 2008 Pours a murky brown color with a medium tan head. Very pleasant aroma of wood, raisins and liquorice. The flavor is also pretty solid, the wood is present, but not too much, there’s also some raisins and liquorice. The body is medium with a liquorous texture and gentle carbonation. It’s a very successfull barrel aging experiment, but I still prefer the original Pannepot. Hildigöltur (5109), København, Denmark Jun 10, 2008 Bottled. Hazy reddish brown coloured. Very vinous apple aroma with spicy notes. Sweet and herbal fruit flavour (especially apples and plums). Some pleasant acidity in the finish. Rather fizzy. Medium bodied. padrefan98 (787), (San Diego) Santee, California, USA Jun 1, 2008 A huge thanks to toncatcher for sharing this one. A brew that we all had been waiting for to try. Deffinetly lived up to the hype. Lots of deep woody flavors with a long lasting bitter flavor. Some sourness. Very good. kkearn (994), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA May 31, 2008 330mL bottle. Pours deep mahogany, capped with a moderate sized tan head. Lively aroma, with spices, pear, wood, and alcohol in the foreground, and brown sugar, caramel, fruitcake, and dark wheat present as well. Sweet malt, raisin, apple, and whiskey are the dominant flavors, with notes of wheat, plum, and wood. Finishes with some warming alcohol and apple skin flavor. Really nice beer. It’s been a while since I’ve had the original Pannepot, but I think I may like the base beer more than the barrel-aged varieties. I hope to try the 4 versions head to head someday... toncatcher (228), Santee - SAN DIEGO, California, USA May 31, 2008 Bottle thanks to miketd and Papsoe. Pours a cloudy brown with the slightest of a tan head, Aroma of wood, yeast and soem spice. Flavors of wood, molasses, and spice. Nice mouthfeel. ucusty (1871), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA May 30, 2008 Todds tasting Thanks Todd! Dark brown slightly hazy with a fluffy off white head. Slightly sour with hints of grape and oak. Nice dry finish jeanmath (8), Quebec, Quebec, Canada does not count May 23, 2008 Bottle 2005, deep brown and small beige head. Smell grape and taste of wood present, sweet and alchool stay in mouth at the end. Excellent Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA May 20, 2008 Sampled at Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fà in Roma and then again at Monk’s Cafe in Stockholm. I was underwhelmed both times. Mostly I failed to see how the wood had that big of an influence on the beer. Lately, I have been drinking a lot of regular Pannepot 2006 (nearly 2 years old, its amazing.) That beer has more complexity to me than the Grand Reserva. So yes, this was a tasty beer, but I expected more oak character.
