tarjei (1741), Bryne, Norway May 11, 2008 33 cl bottle, vintage 2005. Almost black color, brown head. Aroma is lovely, with dark and dried fruits. Flavor has the same, with clear notes of oak. Very complex, with a small sourness in the finish. My rating #800. moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA May 11, 2008 Shared by MikeTD. Thanks Mike! Dark brown body with a small head. The aroma is heavy caramel and prune. Nice mouthfeel--syrupy and thick. The flavor is just like the aroma with hints of oak and definite alcohol. shp555 (1678), Atlanta, Georgia, USA May 10, 2008 Pours a hazy mahogany brown color with a brown head. Aroma is molasses, caramel, oak, vanilla, some alcohol, and honey apple notes. Flavor is malty, caramel, molasses, oak, vanilla, apple, and a sweet alcohol finish. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA May 10, 2008 Bottle thanks to OldStyleCubFan: Pours a hazy dark mahogany with a clingy-lacing froth of beige head. Aroma of sweet fruity notes, some doughy caramel malts and Belgian yeast along with oaky apples. Starts effervescent with lively carbonation settling into a sweet caramely maltiness nicely balanced with complex woody character and light fruits. Finishes drier, slightly tart with nice calvados flavor. An enjoyable and well-made brew. unclemattie (2370), Georgia, USA May 10, 2008 330ml bottle. Pours cloudy dark brown, tan head. Big aroma. Notes of wood, oak, apple, brandy, cork. Smooth body. Sweet and flavorful. Slight flavors of toast. A light flavor of wine, nice malt body. hints of oak, brandy. light carbonation. Medium - heavy bodied. So good, some smooth. ABV is very well hidden. ATLBeerDog (280), Atlanta, Georgia, USA May 10, 2008 Pours a deep brown root beer like color with above average head, and above average lacing and carbonation. Bittersweet oaky malt smell. Tastes a little lighter than the aroma or ABV would indicate. Has a nice malt backbone. Finishes well and tastes like it is bottle conditioned. A very good beer! Ofortuna (322), Grafton, Wisconsin, USA May 10, 2008 From my backlog. HUGE thanks to Jason for letting me try this! Also thanks to sk8viking for sending this to him! Wow, complexity! Gorgeous whipped cream-like head. Nice lacing on the side of the glass. Wonderful balance noted here in both the aroma and flavour. Bits of black pepper, nutmeg, coriander, caramel, candied fruit......it just goes on. Oak and vanilla make a subtle appearance with the calvados jumping in a little later on. Some yeasty notes along with some interesting esters. Slight funk on the back-end of the palate. Slight warming sensation on the way down gave a nice pleasent nature to this. Deep layers of complexity keep going on well after the last sip. Wonderful experience!
