The aroma is complex with some oak, chocolate, caramel, raisins, and alcohol. The flavor is rather sweet with some oak, vanilla, chocolate, molasses, and other dark fruits. This is good in small amounts but can get a bit too sweet. Some alcohol burn in the finish. Overall a great beer. tronraner (1917), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 3, 2009 33 cL bottle, much thanks to ygtbsm94. Pours an opaque dark brown with soapy tan head and some visible yeast sediment. A swirl in my snifter leaves nice legs on the side of the glass, to which the foam sticks nicely. The aroma is sweet rum and raisin bread, plum, pear, little touches of chocolate, vanilla, and oak, a hefty dose of yeast, and some spicy alcohol notes. The flavor is very fruity, with plum, raisin, black cherry, pear, and a lot of ripe papaya. Behind all that fruit is some rum and oak. There’s quite a bit of sweetness here, and all those sugars give it a sticky, almost syrupy mouthfeel. Spicy alcohol and some wooden bitterness take over the finish, which really helps cut the sweetness and keep it from becoming too cloying. Very tasty beer, though to be honest, I was hoping for a much deeper complexity. altonbrownd (1914), Amsterdam, Netherlands

| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 22, 2009 This opaque black beer poured with a modest tan head, eliciting a marvelous chocolate and spice aroma. The flavor is subdued and dry, but very delicious, with chocolate, raisin and cinnamon tastes. A very elegant brew. TheGrandMaster (1862), Auckland, New Zealand
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 30, 2008 Bottle with yalnikim (in NZ), poured brown with a large foamy brown head, with great lacing down the glass. Biscuity malt on the nose, with nutty and sugary notes. A refreshing sourness on the palate, balancing some sugary flavours. Maybe had too many on this night to appreciate it as much as others. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA

POurs a fairly clear maroon copper color, with a small swirly light brown head. Smells of sweet apples and dark fruits, along with dark malts, grapes, and a touch of brandy and oak as well. The flavor is of bigger sweet apples, along with the more profound oak and dark malty characters. Almost more subtle and less intense than the other Pannepots, but this had a pleasant calmness about it that I thoroughly enjoyed.
