Commercial Description:
"Vintage 2005"
Our PGR has aged for 24 months on oak barrels and has been bottled for the first time on the 27th of December 2007. The main difference with the Pannepot Reserva is that PGR matured the last ten months on Calvados oak barrels, adding extra complexity to the beer. We dedicate this beer as a tribute to Jeppe & Michael of Ølbutikken in Denmark. Those gentlemen were the first to discover our beers on an International basis back in 2004 and are responsable somehow for our beers being all over the globe since then. As a token of gratitude towards Jeppe & Michael, the first shipment of PGR was scheduled to Ølbutikken so they could be the first to launch its commercialisation.

I had this beer on my want list for a long time and I almost walked out of Beer Bistro in Toronto without trying it...my wife stopped me at the door. Pours brown with a tan head. Aroma of booze, dark fruit, and some oak. Deep dark fruit flavor. The beer is actually thick and still has some booze to it. Very sweet. Glad to finally try it.

33 cl bottle from Bieropholie, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. 2005 Vintage.

App.: Very, very deep ruby-black with a fairly large, light tan froth. Aroma: Some nice, rich deep malts, quite fruity, also quite bright, some minty herbals, a fair bit of orange peel and citrus, brown sugar and molasses, a touch of licorice, kinda spicy, maybe some wood-related notes, but could be power of suggestion, a little alcohol. Palate: Medium+ body, fairly low effervescence. Flav.: Lots of molasses, brown sugar, licorice, tangy fruits, citrus peel, a little alcohol, some vague wood notes; fairly sweet mixed with a definite sour note and a little bitterness, finishes with nice deep malts a bit of warming alcohol.

This is quite enjoyable, but the organic acid brightness takes away from the experience.

Dark brown coloured beer with small off-white head and no carbonation.. Bit malty aroma slightly roasted. Full palate slightly creamy. Finish is sour at first changing into roasted, also bit bitter. Very good one, top beer.

Merritt Island Throwdown ’08: Bottle, courtesy hopscotch. Pours a candy apple red, with braids of sharp lacing on the glass and a frothy white head. Lots of sour apple in the nose, with a sugary tartness that can’t help but intrigue the senses. Fruity esters pound you. Flavor is full of cider, and nice and spicy. Brown sugar, slight caramel. Sweet, yet not overwhelming. Shares some tart qualities in the finish. Very balanced, and the body is strong. Tastes great, plain and simple.

Flaske.

330mL bottle. Pours deep mahogany, capped with a moderate sized tan head. Lively aroma, with spices, pear, wood, and alcohol in the foreground, and brown sugar, caramel, fruitcake, and dark wheat present as well. Sweet malt, raisin, apple, and whiskey are the dominant flavors, with notes of wheat, plum, and wood. Finishes with some warming alcohol and apple skin flavor. Really nice beer. It’s been a while since I’ve had the original Pannepot, but I think I may like the base beer more than the barrel-aged varieties. I hope to try the 4 versions head to head someday...

several 330 ml bottles of this were opened at the recent KW group tasting but i know at least one came from jessem. thats to all who shared. dark brown with a lively tan head, surprising for an ’05. wonderful barrel aged complexity jumps up and fills your nostril as you inhale the beauty. dark fruits with woody notes, some vanilla, very big and bold. the flavour is complex with spice, yeast, candied sugar, dark malts. i could drink a few of these just about anytime. great brew!
