Commercial Description:
"Vintage 2005"
Our PGR has aged for 24 months on oak barrels and has been bottled for the first time on the 27th of December 2007. The main difference with the Pannepot Reserva is that PGR matured the last ten months on Calvados oak barrels, adding extra complexity to the beer. We dedicate this beer as a tribute to Jeppe & Michael of Ølbutikken in Denmark. Those gentlemen were the first to discover our beers on an International basis back in 2004 and are responsable somehow for our beers being all over the globe since then. As a token of gratitude towards Jeppe & Michael, the first shipment of PGR was scheduled to Ølbutikken so they could be the first to launch its commercialisation.

Thanks to Brad! Aroma is hugely oaky, some alcohol, a bit of apples and caramel. Taste is fizzy, sweet, lots of sweet caramel malt, some toastiness and sugar. Doughy, bready, yeasty character. Very nice! As it warms this beer sweetens up, but it is still semi-dry on the palate, oaky.

Dark brown with a thin tan ring. Candi sugar nose with light touches of alcohol. Taste begins with a bit of alcohol and has a lot of sweetness. More reminiscent of the original version that the reserva version. Still a bit more mellow than the original and a bit more to my liking. Not as complex but still tastes good, loses some of the spices but the sweetness that seems to characterize this beer is a lot more to my liking.

A huge thanks to toncatcher for sharing this one. A brew that we all had been waiting for to try. Deffinetly lived up to the hype. Lots of deep woody flavors with a long lasting bitter flavor. Some sourness. Very good.

Tasted 26/07/2008. 330ml bottle from Sune, shared with Sam and Steve in Invercargill. Murky brown, light lace. Sugary, caramel, fruity and a little sour, but it really lacks the finesse of a flemish ale. Maybe it’ll reach that point another 5 years.

Solid, but I’ll take the original anyday. Dark brown pour with descent sized white head. Nose of oak, vanilla, sugary sweetness, boozy malt. Flavor is a bit on the alcohol side of things, but after a little warming it turns into a nice fall evening type beverage. ,

2005 vintage sampled at cquiroga’s 3rd Annual Woodshop Tasting on 3/1/08. Thanks Chris for busting this one out! Awesome that we got to try it alongside the Reserva brought by wetherel. Distinguishably two different beers. Pours deep copper with minimal head, and some bubbly lacing boosts the appearance. Looks mellowed and more syrupy. Oak barrel is definitely more prominent in all aspects, the aroma is fruity raisin and plum with a bit of citrus. Tangy fruits and honey in the flavor, with lots of spiced caramel; yeast seems to be more subdued. Finishes with a matured oak wood and leather character. Pretty tasty; I think the extra time in the barrel may have been just a bit over the top. Nevertheless, excellent.

Vintage 2005 tasted in September 2008. Very dark brown with medium pale tan head. Aroma of malt and caramel. tastes of liquorice and caramel, the sweetness nicely balanced with hoppy bitterness, especially late.

Double-barrel aging must give this BSA such a smoothed-out character. I pour the 33cl bottle (Bar Volo) and watch a medium-viscous pour of deep dark brown form a dense tan head that likes to leave hazy dense rings when swirled. It releases aromas that are subtly vinous, yeasty and gently sweet-malty. Taste is very refined and wine-like with muted muscat grape, raisin, and vanilla with some other subtle dry fruit hints and toffee in the background. French oak character is much rounded, and the vinous tanginess holds on to the long finish. Almost light feel but it activates many parts of the mouth senses. Not overwhelming in any respect and good stuff - would be fun to also try regular reserve and original.
