Commercial Description:
"Vintage 2005"
Our PGR has aged for 24 months on oak barrels and has been bottled for the first time on the 27th of December 2007. The main difference with the Pannepot Reserva is that PGR matured the last ten months on Calvados oak barrels, adding extra complexity to the beer. We dedicate this beer as a tribute to Jeppe & Michael of Ølbutikken in Denmark. Those gentlemen were the first to discover our beers on an International basis back in 2004 and are responsable somehow for our beers being all over the globe since then. As a token of gratitude towards Jeppe & Michael, the first shipment of PGR was scheduled to Ølbutikken so they could be the first to launch its commercialisation.

Thanks to Brad! Aroma is hugely oaky, some alcohol, a bit of apples and caramel. Taste is fizzy, sweet, lots of sweet caramel malt, some toastiness and sugar. Doughy, bready, yeasty character. Very nice! As it warms this beer sweetens up, but it is still semi-dry on the palate, oaky.

Big thanks to Mike for this one. Dark ruby to brown color. A thick beige effervescent head is roduced and then fades to a film. Vinous aromas of fruit, along with caramel and toffee. Flavor comes across as intensely sweet. Maple candy comes to mind. Fruity, a bit like grapes, some oak, hints of spices, and a light buttery finish. The sweetness can be a bit stingy on the palate. Very complex and interesting.

Shared by MikeTD. Thanks Mike! Dark brown body with a small head. The aroma is heavy caramel and prune. Nice mouthfeel--syrupy and thick. The flavor is just like the aroma with hints of oak and definite alcohol.

Bottle at Delirium in Brussels. Sweet, dark fruits are checked by light, vinous tannins and mild bitterness. Soft, velvety carbonation somehow gives the impression of lighter body... dangerously easy to drink, considering the alcohol and process behind this beer. Finishes a touch dry. Warming. Delicious. One to contemplate for sure. Hope to try it again soon.

Bottle, 33cl, vintage 2005. Pours a dark nutbrown beer with a light brown head. The aroma is caramel with notes of esters. The flavor is caramel, plums and notes of acidity. The palate leaves a fresh and acidic aftertaste. Overall a very good beer from De Struise.

Bottle. Pours dark brown/black with very thick and long lasting beige head. Aroma of raspberry, chocolate, soy. Sweet and inviting like a desert. Complex sweet and fruity taste. Lots of raisins, oak, chocolate and raspberry. Reminds me of port. Smooth and well balanced.

2005 vintage sampled at cquiroga’s 3rd Annual Woodshop Tasting on 3/1/08. Thanks Chris for busting this one out! Awesome that we got to try it alongside the Reserva brought by wetherel. Distinguishably two different beers. Pours deep copper with minimal head, and some bubbly lacing boosts the appearance. Looks mellowed and more syrupy. Oak barrel is definitely more prominent in all aspects, the aroma is fruity raisin and plum with a bit of citrus. Tangy fruits and honey in the flavor, with lots of spiced caramel; yeast seems to be more subdued. Finishes with a matured oak wood and leather character. Pretty tasty; I think the extra time in the barrel may have been just a bit over the top. Nevertheless, excellent.
