| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 31, 2008 Courtesy hopscotch....thanks again Eric! This one pours a crazy looking, cloudy, muddy, golden-tinted mauve color. A swirly tan film with a bubbly edge crowns the top in stark contrast to the massive, billowing foam of the regular Pannepot. The inviting appearance leads into a sweet aroma of figs, raisons, and caramel. Fresh golden apples add a sharp, tart element, while Belgian yeast and funky barrel notes add depth and complexity. In the mouth, the tart apples push their way through the sweeter elements, emerging on the forefront. Soon after, sweeter, figgy, dark fruit notes follow. Finishes with a sour twang that just seems to be a bit out of place. The substantial body is smooth and moderately carbonated, resulting in a nice mouthfeel. This is a very, very good beer, but the regular Pannepot is head-and-shoulders above this version, in my opinion. This is an instance when messing with a good thing just doesn’t pan out as well as one would hope for. uhre (339), Denmark

This was 2005 vintage sampled in February 2008.
The aroma is full of oak, but also some spicies, alcohol and it’s also acidly and sour. The flavor is first full of oak, alcohol burn and perhaps sour also. At first it’s not that good, but after you get used to it - it’s amazing! Perhaps the flavor is also sherry like. Sparky27 (1608), Phoenix, Arizona, USA

Pours a clear brown with minimal light tan head that leaves nice lacing. Nose is port wine, spice and alcohol. Taste is complex with white grapes, yeast, a touch of funk and some sweet brown sugar and oak with a sour black cherry and alcohol finish. Medium bubbly mouth feel. Very good. Pours a murky brownish black with a fairly large, beige head lasting a few minutes. The aroma is very vinous with notes of oak, apples, berries, port and caramel. The taste is sweet with a sour finish. Smooth and rich mouthfeel. Light, prickling carbonation. CapnCascade (116), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 23, 2009 Pours dark brown with ruby tinges, wispy beige head with some retention. Aroma is sweet, slightly vinous, and oaky with a hint of acetic acid sourness. Barrel aging has mellowed out the dark fruit character quite considerably in comparison with the 2005 Old Fisherman’s Ale, and oak is noticeable in the flavour. Mouthfeel is on the light side but not thin.
