JK (2394), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA Jul 19, 2007 This is an incredible beer. The aroma has light alcohol, but much more. There is sweet fruit, cinnamon, malt sweetness, yeast, and oak, as well as some brown sugar and light spices I can’t identify. It has a very dark brown appearance, and is very thick like syrup, the palate is quite exceptional. The flavor has a little oak, and this is just a hair drier than the regular Pannepot. There is also a light roasted character. Very much like a malty Trappist ale, comparable to Achel or Westvleteren in the malt character. There are light spices, and I do perceive the cardamom now that I know it is there. It takes a long time just to drink a little bit of this, as it is very thick, heavy, smooth, and complex. My first 5.0. Thanks to olso2116 for sharing. lululegrand (87), gent, Belgium Apr 14, 2007 On tap at Struise farm. Intens deep brown, almost black beer with brown reddish reflections and a nice big Struise head. Foam is beige with hints of mocca and it stays there for ever. Nose is very smooth and super complex. It is malty, roasty, woody, fruity, soft sugary and slightly spiced. Taste is so smooth and so complex without being overdone. Again tons of malt, candy sugar, spices, fruits like prunes and figgs but also hints of frech grapes. Mouthfeeling is soft, smooth and silky. Afthertaste is slight coffee like, sweet-malty, complex fruity and so well in balance. Woohaa ! Great job guys. GilBier (64), Dendermonde, Belgium Jun 19, 2007 Thanks to Struise Urbain for opening one of the last 75cl bottles for me and my wife. Great hazy brown beer with a super creamy and long lasting foam. Aroma is in the same line as the famous Westvleteren 12. Great malty nose, sweet bread, caramel, candi sugar, soft sweet spices, wood and some port caracteristics too. The taste is very smooth and so complex. Soft carbonation, nice bready and malty body. Spices and wood are nicely melted together. Afthertaste is complex and very very very tastef.ull. Thanks Urbain for this special treat. toccata (70), grembergen, Belgium Mar 21, 2007 On tap at ZBF. Hazy dark brown and very creamy white to beige foam. Aroma is deep and complex. Wood, dark malts, candi sugar, fruits like figgs and dry raisins, cognac and nuts. Taste is generous and also super complex. The beer is very malty, nutty and in the finish there is a crisp dryness of wood tannins. Carlo, this is the best beer so far brewed by Struise. hunter18 (3), Laren NH, Netherlands does not count Apr 30, 2008 Nice dark beer with excellent flavor. toasted, roasted, burnt, nutty, Light brown
