kkearn (994), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 31, 2008 750mL bottle, thanks to my cousin (ggaughan). Poured deep chestnut colored, with a huge, frothy tan head and active carbonation. Earthy, herbal aroma with anise, oak, ginger, yeast, and dark fruit. Flavor of dried fruit, herbs, spice, oak, nuts, and cocoa. Warming alcohol in the finish. Really nice beer, I can’t wait to try it again alongside the other Pannepots (and hopefully the Grand Reserva as well). Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Mar 8, 2008 Updated: Mar 9, 2008Poured from a 750 ml bottle; vintage 2006, thanks to Zac. Mahogany hued and skinned with a thin rim of beige. Aroma is very deep; buttery brandy, vanilla, banana, chocolate, and caramel; hints of bubblegum and plenty of extraneous sweetness and rum like alcohol. Flavor is both zesty and rich, with a lovely balance of honey, peppermint, cocoa, honey, and golden fruit. Slightly sandy, with hints of cherry cola, licorice, brown spices, and tropical vinousness. Canned peaches. Layers unfold at a slow, leisurely speed. Chocolate. Hazelnuts. Red apple. Delicate and bold. Palate is brisk but full in body; slightly sour, and mildly acidic. Finish is vinous and slightly tart, with raspberry, pear, cherry, and chocolate; nut skins, and some alcohol. Sticky and crisp at the same time, and thoroughly generous in the mouth. Beautiful and refined; deep as the universe. tytoanderso (1382), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA Mar 8, 2008 750ml bottle generously shared by hellomynameis. Lots of candied fruit on the nose. Brown sugar. Alcohol, but not in a bad way. Some light, nutty sherry notes. A touch of cinnamon and ginger. Spicy yeast with just a touch of moist oak. Pours thick, dark copper with rich amber highlights topped off by a thin khaki head. Alcohol soaked figs and dates initially on the tongue. Plenty of yeasty spice, brown sugar, wood. Quite tasty, but there’s an odd copper note that I can’t quite shake. Light toasted bread. Creamy on the tongue. Lush and silky mouthfeel. Hmmm. Certainly a beer to make me think. Thanks Zac hellomynameis (794), Mayer, Minnesota, USA Mar 8, 2008 Dark brown with a thin tan head made up of very fine bubbles. I hated the regular version because it was overly sweet but the aging seems to have made this a bit better and milder. Still sugary in the aroma with some molasses. Flavour is subtle but has quite a bit going on, many different spices present themselves with some more candi sugar and sweetness. Finishes with a bit of alcohol and some slight bitterness. larsniclas (3383), Gothenburg, Sweden Mar 8, 2008 Bottled at Kulminator, Antwerp.
Dark brown with a beige head.
Aroma with a lot of dark sugar and caramelle.
Warming alco-feel with sourish notes.
Chocolate, fruits and dark sugar in the flavour. jarspag (593), Los Angeles, California, USA Mar 5, 2008 3rd Annual Woodshop Tasting, 3/1/08. Thanks John for bringing the 750ml. Surprisingly, the barrel influence seems to dumb down the original for the worse. It mellows out the normally intense and deliciuos flavor. A notch above the grand, but a notch below the normal Pannepot for me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still great! wetherel (1565), Encinitas, California, USA Mar 5, 2008 Tasted at 2008 Woodshop hosted by cquiroga. Bottle from ygtbsm94. Thanks Brad! Strong carbonation, which dulls the flavors a little. Less sweet than the Grand Reserva. Tried side by side with the Pannepot, Panneput, and Pannepot Reserva. I like the Grand the best, but they are extremely similar, so the ratings are the same.
ekstedt (2411), Göteborg, Sweden Mar 4, 2008 Bottle (75 cl) at Kulminator, Antwerp, Belgium. Dark brown with creamy beige head. Very much like the ordinary pannepot, but a bit drier, with notes of wood and butterscotch, and a cidery touch. A very complex beer.
