Commercial Description:
The Pannepot Reserva was an idea from my brew collegue Carlo who wanted to age Pannepot in genuine French oak barrels (barrique 225 liters). We have brewed 90HL at the end of 2005 which has been aging on oak ever since (14 months). 30 Hl was bottled Tuesday 8th May 2007. 60Hl has been transferred now to second hand calvados oak vessels and will be bottled again early autumn 2007, we will name that batch Pannepot Grand Reserva. As quality and results rule at Struise, the Reserva was already brewed again and aging on oak.
Latest bottling: april 08

Dark brown with a thin tan head made up of very fine bubbles. I hated the regular version because it was overly sweet but the aging seems to have made this a bit better and milder. Still sugary in the aroma with some molasses. Flavour is subtle but has quite a bit going on, many different spices present themselves with some more candi sugar and sweetness. Finishes with a bit of alcohol and some slight bitterness.

Bottled at Kulminator, Antwerp. Dark brown with a beige head. Aroma with a lot of dark sugar and caramelle. Warming alco-feel with sourish notes. Chocolate, fruits and dark sugar in the flavour.

3rd Annual Woodshop Tasting, 3/1/08. Thanks John for bringing the 750ml. Surprisingly, the barrel influence seems to dumb down the original for the worse. It mellows out the normally intense and deliciuos flavor. A notch above the grand, but a notch below the normal Pannepot for me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still great!

Tasted at 2008 Woodshop hosted by cquiroga. Bottle from ygtbsm94. Thanks Brad! Strong carbonation, which dulls the flavors a little. Less sweet than the Grand Reserva. Tried side by side with the Pannepot, Panneput, and Pannepot Reserva. I like the Grand the best, but they are extremely similar, so the ratings are the same.

Bottle (75 cl) at Kulminator, Antwerp, Belgium. Dark brown with creamy beige head. Very much like the ordinary pannepot, but a bit drier, with notes of wood and butterscotch, and a cidery touch. A very complex beer.

Sampled at cquiroga’s 3rd Annual Woodshop Tasting. Wetherel brought a 750ml of this, thanks John! Sampled alongside the Pannepot Grand Reserva. One of my favorites out of the many epic beers we tried that evening. The oak presence adds a nice layer of complexity to this already amazing concoction. Hazy burgundy color with a big light brown head and bubbles. Looks appetizing. Great aroma of toasty Belgian yeast, plum and raisin with lots of wood in the background. Flavors are similar to regular Pannepot, with toffee, more raisin, chocolate and cinnamon. The oak aging slides a subtle woody character into the finish, rounding out the bitterness and resulting in a "wow" feeling with each sip. It still has that tingly, soothing mouth feel as well. Just a notch above the Grand Reserva I think; overall I would say that I still like the original a bit more. Great!

Re-rate, Pre Tasting 08 PP Belgian Fest w/ my girlfriend Cyn, Bartzilla and Galtscat. Bottle from Galtscat. Pours dark brown with a 1 finger tan head. Nose is sweet and yeasty and nice. Taste is sweet robust syrupy, very nice killer palate. 29th Rating from 3rd Annual Woodshop tasting in Temple City, CA. 3/1/08. One hell of a day put on by Cquiroga, thanks for a killer day Chris. Also spent the day there with bikesanbeer, my girlfriend Cyn, wetherel, JohnC, DenverLogan, dirty_martini, jasparg, DrBil, IPAFiend, awaisanen and many others, this was one crazy day. Bottle from wetherel. Pours amber with an off whtie ring. Nose is mellower than grand reserva. Taste is sweet and complex, big and very nice. Great beer, like it about equally to grand reserva for different reasons.

Bottle shared by moejuck at c-bus 10. Pours dark brown with a medium sized tan colored head. Aroma is choclate, dried dark fruits, oak, vanilla, ginger. Flavor is chocolate, spruce, oak, vanilla, ginger, clove, roast. Palate is full bodied, medium carbonation, finished sweet and warming. This is fantastic, however I think I like the un-oaked slightly better.
