beernbourbon (230), chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 9, 2009 Pours murky brown with minimal tan head. Aroma is spicy, cloves, cinnamon, fruity, dates, raisins, wood pokes through, and a nice malty smoothness. Flavor is a bit more cohesive than aroma, nice malty sweetness up front with fruity and woody notes towards the end. Finish is velvety, woody and sweet. Subtle alcohol burn too. Very nice. TampaBrew (726), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 7, 2009 thanks kiefdog for the share. I’ve been wanting to try this for a while now. POurs a murky brown. Aroma is sweet with tons of things going on. Some rich spices, malt sweetness, ripe dark fruits, semi sweet chocolate. Flavors are much of the same with some barnyard funk, rich malts, sweet sugars, spicy yeast notes. Bready, raisins, more spices, booze. Wonderfully complex beer in every way. I NEED more. kiefdog (1534), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 7, 2009 75cl bottle from Five Points Bottle Shop (Athens, GA). Pours a dark brown to black with one finger white-tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of yeast, wheat, candy sugar, brown sugar, ripe dark fruits, run-soaked raisins, some hints of chocolate and caramel. Flavor is sweet and malty with similar notes of brown sugar, ripe dark fruit, candy sugar, molasses, rummy-raisins, and carmel. Generally medium to full body with a pleasing malty finish. markwise (1132), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA Jun 6, 2009 Thanks kiefdog for the share. Amazing beer that is heavy, but lovable. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Nose is caramel, candy sugar, and some raisiny goodness with some alcohol. Flavor is very similar with a thick sweetness and lots of sugary, raisiny goodness coming out. Deep, dark and excellent complex beer. Scauca (408), Lovere, Italy Jun 4, 2009 Muddy brown with a little vanishing head. Plenty of dried fruits, red berries, plums, malt, with just an hint of roasted & spices. The flavour is sweet, fruity. Thick body. The alcohol is not that hidden, and perhaps is also a bit too carbonated. A very good beer nevertheless. kappldav123 (1789), Markkleeberg, Germany Jun 4, 2009 The bottle looks good, the beer in the glass also. Deep black color, nice head. Starts strong-malty, modest smoky, intense notes of liquorice. Finish well balanced, smoky-malty, still very much liquorice. Not as strong as exspected, a bit too much liquorice. Thanks to Bierkoning for the bottle! Eccellente. MartinT (5026), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jun 1, 2009 My Bottom Line:
Berries meet peppery spiciness and lenient licorice, before moderate alcohol heat and oaken dryness conclude this elegant sipper of a Belgian Strong Ale.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A frothy head of foam covers the dark mahogany.
-I found this one to be less spicy and sweet than the regular Pannepot and not as fruity and vinous as the Grand Reserva.
-The nose was redolent of BBQ spices at times.
-Tiny bubbles build a lively mouthfeel, increasing drinkability.
-Some roasted malts appear in there at times, and cola-like notes spring from the sweet spiciness.
Bottle. 2005 vintage.
