| 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Jul 19, 2007 This is an incredible beer. The aroma has light alcohol, but much more. There is sweet fruit, cinnamon, malt sweetness, yeast, and oak, as well as some brown sugar and light spices I can’t identify. It has a very dark brown appearance, and is very thick like syrup, the palate is quite exceptional. The flavor has a little oak, and this is just a hair drier than the regular Pannepot. There is also a light roasted character. Very much like a malty Trappist ale, comparable to Achel or Westvleteren in the malt character. There are light spices, and I do perceive the cardamom now that I know it is there. It takes a long time just to drink a little bit of this, as it is very thick, heavy, smooth, and complex. My first 5.0. Thanks to olso2116 for sharing. ante (2960), Stockholm, Sweden
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 2, 2008 Bottled. Pours out in a hazy reddish brown colour witha big and firm tan-coloured foam. Black cherries, licorice, brown sugar, wood, alcohol, vanilla, nuts and sourish red berries in the deep aroma. Full flavour of wood, alcohol, sweet licorice, nuts, coconut and cherries. Full-bodied. Long warming finish wood, vanilla, nuts, alcohol, dates and figs. Really tasty and classy but I prefer the regular version, though. BMan1113VR (2937), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 1, 2009 2005 Edition shared with the folks at the Bruery and a few friends. Rating number 2300. 750ml bottle thanks to JB175. Pours with a huge, fluffy, khaki head over a hazy brown body. Full retention from the head, and great lace. This is a beautiful beer. Aroma is rich and really opens as the beer warms. Raisins, oxidation and sherry make themselves seen early with some spice, meat, chocolate, special b malt, caramel and mulling spices. Light oak brandy presence too. Taste is brandy, oak, meat/Pannepot "blood", raisin, oak tannins, paper oxidation and apricot. Light acidity towards the finish. Huge duration. Creamy mouthfeel and carbonation. Another solid and special de Struise beer! skortila (2913), Bunnik, Netherlands

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 27, 2008 Updated: Jul 22, 2008In short: A big heavy sweet candy in a bottle. Superb.
How: Bottle 750ml, shared by tertons with sunevdj and I. Drank about 1 year after the beer release. Thanks a lot Nelson!!!
The look: Cloudy light brownish body with a long-lasting medium off-white head
In long: Just like the regular Pannepot this one has a strong candy feeling. Crisp sweet red liquorice wrapped around dried fruits of all kinds. Big heavy trappist-like malted and yeasty body. Some spicy hard candies in there too. Barrel aging did change the taste but I didn’t get much wood/barrel in the taste if any at all. Seemed crisper with a stronger spiciness sensation than the regular Pannepot. Also present was a little sweet Sherry wine flavour and a much welcomed light cherry sourness. Don’t know which one I prefer, I’m rating this one higher right now but I’m due for a Pannepot re-rate since I like it more and more very time. Thanks again to Nelson for opening your cooler in exchange for floor-space at my hotel room. That was an excellent deal to me, usually people who offers beers like that don’t ask to sleep on the floor, they ask to sleep in my bed and do dirty things to me… and I say yes :( thebeertourist (2822), Oslo, Norway
