Commercial Description:
The Pannepot Reserva was an idea from my brew collegue Carlo who wanted to age Pannepot in genuine French oak barrels (barrique 225 liters). We have brewed 90HL at the end of 2005 which has been aging on oak ever since (14 months). 30 Hl was bottled Tuesday 8th May 2007. 60Hl has been transferred now to second hand calvados oak vessels and will be bottled again early autumn 2007, we will name that batch Pannepot Grand Reserva. As quality and results rule at Struise, the Reserva was already brewed again and aging on oak.
Latest bottling: april 08

2005 750ml bottle from pantanap. Thanks Kan!!! What I admired most about this was how it staved off oxidation for this many years. Another monument to Struise’s unbridled excellence. As far as the goods, I found them a full, balanced single note: raisins. Everywhere. The Struise house yeast saves the day as usual but I find 12 oz bottles of Pannepot to be crushingly complex in comparison. Just IMO.

Much thanks to egajdzis for breaking open this treat. 2006 version... Appears a murky brown with a small, fluffy, off white head that slowly fades into a small head and clumpy collar. Plenty of lacing is left around the glass. Smell is of caramel, roasted nuts, vanilla oak, light spices, ripe red cherries, roasted nuts, and a hint of dry sherry. Taste echoes the aromas with a hint of anise and cinnamon poking through the cherries, and caramel. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, smooth, with the sweetness outcharming the spices, which seem to be abundant in the American released version.

750ml Bottle courtesy of Immy at Immy’s Backyard Throwdown, vintage 2005. Pours cloudy copper in color with tan head. Aroma sweet, malty and brown sugar. Taste spicy, malty and woody with bitter finish.

Re-rate 8/6/07, 75 cL at Delirium, shared with MiP and afatty. I feel lucky every time I get to taste this beer. Georgeous apearance with a big, creamy head. Aroma relatively faint, but as it warms it becomes a vinous melange of malts, dark fruit, booze and wood. Malty, sweetish flavor with notes of raisins and prunes, with awesome balance coming from lively carbo, mild hops and tannins. Just outstanding stuff. ---- The best thing I tasted @ Zythos. On tap. Beautiful black-brown with a creamy head. Choco-malty aroma. Mouthfeel is creamy but carbonated and dry. Much going on in the flavor: lots of dark, roasty malt, milk chocolate, hops and alcohol, a touch of sourness. Fascinating and delicious.

thanks kiefdog for the share. I’ve been wanting to try this for a while now. POurs a murky brown. Aroma is sweet with tons of things going on. Some rich spices, malt sweetness, ripe dark fruits, semi sweet chocolate. Flavors are much of the same with some barnyard funk, rich malts, sweet sugars, spicy yeast notes. Bready, raisins, more spices, booze. Wonderfully complex beer in every way. I NEED more.

Bottle shared by moejuck at c-bus 10. Pours dark brown with a medium sized tan colored head. Aroma is choclate, dried dark fruits, oak, vanilla, ginger. Flavor is chocolate, spruce, oak, vanilla, ginger, clove, roast. Palate is full bodied, medium carbonation, finished sweet and warming. This is fantastic, however I think I like the un-oaked slightly better.

Thanks iowaherkeye for the opportunity to try this rare gem. Cola brown pour with a thick brown head. Aroma was very malty with some metal. Flavor was brown sugar, malty sweetness, metal, clove, vanilla, popcorn, butter, and alcohol. Finishes awkwardly sweet but with a mineral blood thing going on.

750ML (2005) bottle. Corked and capped. Dark in color, good head, good lacing. Tart almost sour aroma. Also some spices and dark fruits. Taste is slight oaky taste, tart, spices, dark fruit. Low carbonation level. Really easy to drink. Thanks Robert for saving me a bottle. I owe you! Overall another great beer by struise...
