Commercial Description:
The Pannepot Reserva was an idea from my brew collegue Carlo who wanted to age Pannepot in genuine French oak barrels (barrique 225 liters). We have brewed 90HL at the end of 2005 which has been aging on oak ever since (14 months). 30 Hl was bottled Tuesday 8th May 2007. 60Hl has been transferred now to second hand calvados oak vessels and will be bottled again early autumn 2007, we will name that batch Pannepot Grand Reserva. As quality and results rule at Struise, the Reserva was already brewed again and aging on oak.
Latest bottling: april 08

750ML (2005) bottle. Corked and capped. Dark in color, good head, good lacing. Tart almost sour aroma. Also some spices and dark fruits. Taste is slight oaky taste, tart, spices, dark fruit. Low carbonation level. Really easy to drink. Thanks Robert for saving me a bottle. I owe you! Overall another great beer by struise...

Bottle.33cl. It has a beautiful, lasting, foamy, beige head. The aroma is so very complex. It has all kind of notes, several dark fruits, like dates and prunes.

Bottle cbus-x graciously shared by moejuck, thanks again Joe! DIrty brown pour with a tan head. Aroma of light oak, booze, light bready malt, candied fruits. Flavors of booze soaked fruits, wood, dry malt, light malt...fairly subtle flavors. Medium body...boozey/malty with a dry finish. Pretty nice, though I think I prefer regular Pannepot a bit better...feels like the the barrell againg muted everything a bit too much. It doesn’t change the fact that it is still damn good.

Lugging this around in the backpack from Denmark wasn’t the most fun, but the beer was worth it. Poured dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma was sweet and spicy with bananas coming through. Flavor was very complex and also sweet and spicy. Beautiful mouthfeel. I just wish I would have brought back some of the regular pannepot so that I could have done a side-by-side comparison.

An old rating i finally got to entering. Aroma was a little oaky, malty, belgian yeast. A lighter body than the regular pannepot but overall not as good as the regular. Still a great beer.

2005 vintage: Taste is sweet, metallic some nuttiness, caramel, winey, and oak, some alcohol. Lots of wine, dustiness, some sulphur, cherry, cidery. Aroma is metallic, cidery, cinnamon, sugary-sweet, more sulphur, and oak. Lots of rocky head that adheres to the glass even after the head dies down. Finish is sweet, still more metallic flavor, wine, some dryness and sweet nuttiness. Thick, sweet mouthfeel that does not cloy, nor does it get get overly bitter.

Sampled at Chris_o’s Shindig: Oranges, mocha, corriander aromas; slightly oaky and metallic; spiced finish; dates and other dark fruits in the flavor; very nice.
