Commercial Description:
The Pannepot Reserva was an idea from my brew collegue Carlo who wanted to age Pannepot in genuine French oak barrels (barrique 225 liters). We have brewed 90HL at the end of 2005 which has been aging on oak ever since (14 months). 30 Hl was bottled Tuesday 8th May 2007. 60Hl has been transferred now to second hand calvados oak vessels and will be bottled again early autumn 2007, we will name that batch Pannepot Grand Reserva. As quality and results rule at Struise, the Reserva was already brewed again and aging on oak.
Latest bottling: april 08

Bottle shared by Egajdzis. Pours about the same as the other Pannepots- deep woody amberish brown with a foamy cobwebby head and nice lace. Aroma is mostly fruityesters- raisin and plum with licorice hints, some nuts, almond-like, toasty and caramel malts with hints of vanilla. Some phenols as well as more esters develop as it warms- fruity and hints of vanilla phenol and earthy almost plasticy as well- sweetness is a bit more subdued from the barrel and isnt as sharp as the regular- good amount of oak and vanilla but not overdone so it isnt woody or too earthy. Some carmel and molasses sweetness throughout with a smooth light finish- some alcohol hints as it warms. Nice overall, but It wasnt mind blowing.

Bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Belgium, consumed at Kemmel campsite 11-06-09 Pours dark chesnut brown with a light beige head. Big malty aroma with dark sticky fruits, dates, figs and some stewed fruits start to show, there is also some candy sugar showing. Taste is really smooth, sticky and quite sublime. This tastes like a wonderful dessert with alcohol soaked dark fruits, the dates and figs showing again in the mouth. I don’t really get the oakiness but I think that the ageing has definately smoothed out this wonderful beer. A7 A5 F8 P5 Ov16 4.1

Amber color, brownish head. Malty, roasted, sweetish aroma. Malty, fruity, sweetish flavor, some chocolate notes. A nice beer, but Im not finding it near as good as many others seem to do.

Bottled. Thanks Marsiblursi. Or was it Alastair? Cloudy dark red/brown colour with cottony tan head. Caramel, candied sugar, ripe bananas, sweet licorice and esters in aroma. I believe lots of sugars were added here. I get a bit of Westmalle Dubbel-deja vu, with the sweetness and the banana. Full bodied, with sweet candi and caramel. Still a bit bold in sweetness like a young Westvleteren 12, waiting to bloom with maturation. Lots going on, but as mentioned, bit too sweet.
