JK (2946), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Jul 19, 2007 This is an incredible beer. The aroma has light alcohol, but much more. There is sweet fruit, cinnamon, malt sweetness, yeast, and oak, as well as some brown sugar and light spices I can’t identify. It has a very dark brown appearance, and is very thick like syrup, the palate is quite exceptional. The flavor has a little oak, and this is just a hair drier than the regular Pannepot. There is also a light roasted character. Very much like a malty Trappist ale, comparable to Achel or Westvleteren in the malt character. There are light spices, and I do perceive the cardamom now that I know it is there. It takes a long time just to drink a little bit of this, as it is very thick, heavy, smooth, and complex. My first 5.0. Thanks to olso2116 for sharing. lululegrand (94), gent, Belgium Apr 14, 2007 On tap at Struise farm. Intens deep brown, almost black beer with brown reddish reflections and a nice big Struise head. Foam is beige with hints of mocca and it stays there for ever. Nose is very smooth and super complex. It is malty, roasty, woody, fruity, soft sugary and slightly spiced. Taste is so smooth and so complex without being overdone. Again tons of malt, candy sugar, spices, fruits like prunes and figgs but also hints of frech grapes. Mouthfeeling is soft, smooth and silky. Afthertaste is slight coffee like, sweet-malty, complex fruity and so well in balance. Woohaa ! Great job guys. GilBier (75), Dendermonde, Belgium Jun 19, 2007 Thanks to Struise Urbain for opening one of the last 75cl bottles for me and my wife. Great hazy brown beer with a super creamy and long lasting foam. Aroma is in the same line as the famous Westvleteren 12. Great malty nose, sweet bread, caramel, candi sugar, soft sweet spices, wood and some port caracteristics too. The taste is very smooth and so complex. Soft carbonation, nice bready and malty body. Spices and wood are nicely melted together. Afthertaste is complex and very very very tastef.ull. Thanks Urbain for this special treat. toccata (70), grembergen, Belgium Mar 21, 2007 On tap at ZBF. Hazy dark brown and very creamy white to beige foam. Aroma is deep and complex. Wood, dark malts, candi sugar, fruits like figgs and dry raisins, cognac and nuts. Taste is generous and also super complex. The beer is very malty, nutty and in the finish there is a crisp dryness of wood tannins. Carlo, this is the best beer so far brewed by Struise. hunter18 (3), Laren NH, Netherlands does not count Apr 30, 2008 Nice dark beer with excellent flavor. toasted, roasted, burnt, nutty, Light brown MitchWayne (264), Kokkola, Finland May 28, 2009 Dark reddish brown beer, nice lacing once again. Lovely sweet, complex and vinous aroma, the alcohol is more present here than in the original but it smells like heaven itself. So malty, spicy, fruity, now with some nice wooden notes mixed in rather than distracting the whole like in Pannepot Grand reserva. So soft yet very warming, you can feel the alcohol mostly when it has already gone down your throat. Superb beer, at least as good as the regular pannepot which makes it a perfect beer or perfect beer plus for me. Got to get more of this, If I had to drink only one beer for the rest of my life it would be this one. Still gay for Pannepot, have to five the bastard and shut up now before someone gets annoyed with me. Bov (5403), Bienne, Switzerland Dec 23, 2008 my beer #5000!; from crackedkettle.com - pours a hazy ruby-brown colour under a foamy and persistant beige head; nice lace leaved on the side of the glass; vinous, very complex nose showing aromas of nut, marzipan, bread, pear, vanilla and cognac; smooth mouthfeel with a solid malt body, subtle and regualr carbonation; the quite high sweetness is nicely balanced by some late sourness and bitterness; long aftertaste of overripe fruits, caramel, wood and a deep warming alcohol touch - a divine and hugely complex brew caesar (3020), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands May 12, 2007 Updated: May 24, 2007Bottle, Olfestival. The Struise guys drove all night to get to the festival in time and brought some of this delicious Reserva bottles of the Pannepot. How grateful I am that they were there, and that I was there to taste it. Delicious combination of sweet double beer notes and dried fruits. Candy sugar, port wine, cask wood. Aroma is perfect. Lingering palate goes on and on. Please give me more of this stuff, its brilliant!! :-)
