Commercial Description:
The Pannepot Reserva was an idea from my brew collegue Carlo who wanted to age Pannepot in genuine French oak barrels (barrique 225 liters). We have brewed 90HL at the end of 2005 which has been aging on oak ever since (14 months). 30 Hl was bottled Tuesday 8th May 2007. 60Hl has been transferred now to second hand calvados oak vessels and will be bottled again early autumn 2007, we will name that batch Pannepot Grand Reserva. As quality and results rule at Struise, the Reserva was already brewed again and aging on oak.
Latest bottling: april 08

bottle-Poured a muddy brown with a towering tan head that lingered. Very complex aroma of fruits and some spice that I cannot identify. Flavor was quite sweet with fruit and caramel, and on the finish I could detect a hint of oakiness. All in all a very good beer.

750ml of the 2005 vintage. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Lots of carbonation in the pour. Aroma is of malt, yeast, sugar, dark fruit, oak, and alcohol. Has an amazingly inviting aroma. Taste is of dark fruit, particularly plum. Lots of yeast, alcohol, caramel malt, and sugar. Has lots of undertones of smokey oak and tobacco. Lingering sugary plum flavors. Creamy, heavily carbonated mouthfeel. The alcohol is well subdued, but provides a nice warming effect. Really damn good.

Bottle, cheers Mes. Dark brown with a beige head. Awesome aroma of liquor. Taste is fantastic, a joy to drink. A lot to take in when drinking this, very complex and thinking about it made my head hurt. So I just enjoyed it. Chocolate, dark fruits, mellow hint of something licorice like. Beautiful.

A dark brown belgian ale full of aroma representing oaked age and sweet malty fruit. Taste is full of bite in the use of bready yeast, soury sensibility, and woody brown sugar. Char is noticeable from the calvados barrels. Great retention and full head. The best of the three Pannepots.

2007 vintage from The Cracked Kettle, Amsterdam. Pours an opaque dark brown with a bigger fluffy head that reduces to a certain point and then stays. Aroma has a lot of brown sugar, some chocolate, molasses, maybe a little plum. Nice complex aroma. Flavor repeats the chocolate and molasses, but comes a little more with the dark fruit. I’m also detecting a cognac-like flavor hiding in the background. Very complex. The mouthfeel is simply perfect: Thick and velvety. As soon as I completed the first sip I truly said to myself, "That’s so Struise", in reference to the velvety mouthfeel and finish. There is really something special, I’m convinced, about Struise’s approach to mouthfeel. Or end result thereunto, at least. Overall, world class. Thanks Struise.

Bottle@Dr.Bills Poured brown and clear with a lasting head. A light aroma of fruit, fizzy, with a great warm smooth taste. A great tasty beer.

SpringsLicker’s Fish Fry. Sample from a bottle thanks to tronraner. 2005 bottle. Dark brown red with a soft tan head. Dark candi sugar, light spices, vinuous and loaded with subtle aroma notes. Taste is prunes, figs, more wine like character, light spices. Wow.

2007 Bottle. Pours dark brown with a thick frothy off white head. Aroma is brown sugar, dark fruit, and a hint of oak. Tons of dark fruits, raisins, and more brown sugar on the taste. Very well balanced, big flavors, nice body, and delicious. Extremely good beer.
