Commercial Description:
The Pannepot Reserva was an idea from my brew collegue Carlo who wanted to age Pannepot in genuine French oak barrels (barrique 225 liters). We have brewed 90HL at the end of 2005 which has been aging on oak ever since (14 months). 30 Hl was bottled Tuesday 8th May 2007. 60Hl has been transferred now to second hand calvados oak vessels and will be bottled again early autumn 2007, we will name that batch Pannepot Grand Reserva. As quality and results rule at Struise, the Reserva was already brewed again and aging on oak.
Latest bottling: april 08

2007 Bottle. Pours dark brown with a thick frothy off white head. Aroma is brown sugar, dark fruit, and a hint of oak. Tons of dark fruits, raisins, and more brown sugar on the taste. Very well balanced, big flavors, nice body, and delicious. Extremely good beer.

Rating #700. Bottle shared like a baller by ajm -- big ups for securing this through a trade. Pours prune with a beige head. Smells gloriously of raisins from across the room. Upon closer inspection wood, vanilla, and tart fruit are also apparent in the aroma. All of these flavors along with plum and brown sugar are concentrated in a Normandy-like assault at the front of the palate, followed by tannins on the mid, and oats landing on the shore after the battle. Well done.

Bottle. Wow, a surprise from a friend. 3 way blind taste test alongside pannepot grand reserva 2006 and westvleteren 8. Nice dark appearance with a creamy beige head. A very clean ripe white fruit smell, I get pears here mostly, and something reminiscent of soap also gets me. Taste is quite malty, lot’s of those pears still around and a good boozy taste. Beautiful silky smooth mouthfeel, a real success.

Pours dark brown with dissapating head. Aroma dark fruits, sultanas. Taste rich, vinous, dark plums, dark chocolate, roasted malts. Lovely!

This beer had a great smoke oak flavor. It was almost like a nice smooth bourbon cut with spice, chocolate, and dried fruits. The head of the beer is excellent. This was my last Begian beer experience in Belgium during my 2009 trip. I was not dissapointed, but I was expecting a bit more from the beer...Maybe for complexity.

Bottled at 1st Borefts Beer festival, Bodegraven. Another great beer, you just can’t go wrong at this festival. Very sweet malty beer, very complex yet smooth. Nevertheless a liked the Grand Reserva even better. But all Pannepots are simply brilliant.

Bottle shared by Marcus - 2005. Pours a dark rich brown with a frothy tan head. Strong dark fruit aromas over dark malt. Full bodied with mildly frothy carbonation. Flavor is several dark fruits with cola and mild yeast. Darkly fruity, hinting of bitter and not demonstrating heat. It takes time for the oak to come out. Worth the wait.

Celebrating 8500 ratings with the currently 4th highest rated beer. A very deer red (bourgundy) beer with a medium sized brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of fruits both dried and fresh, caramel, malt, alcohol, and spices among them cinnamon and cloves, something also reminds me of edible roots. The flavor is very sweet and very powerful with notes of over ripe fruits, spices (cinnamon, cloves and more), caramel, malt, alcohol, and brown sugar leading to a sweet and smooth, but at the same time with a slight dryness from the wood finish. The alcohol runs along and tickles the palate and gives it a nice body.
