Commercial Description:
The Pannepot Reserva was an idea from my brew collegue Carlo who wanted to age Pannepot in genuine French oak barrels (barrique 225 liters). We have brewed 90HL at the end of 2005 which has been aging on oak ever since (14 months). 30 Hl was bottled Tuesday 8th May 2007. 60Hl has been transferred now to second hand calvados oak vessels and will be bottled again early autumn 2007, we will name that batch Pannepot Grand Reserva. As quality and results rule at Struise, the Reserva was already brewed again and aging on oak.
Latest bottling: april 08

750ml bottle. 2006 vintage. huge thanks to pantanap for breaking this bad boy out and then pairing it with regular pannepot. pours dark frown with off white head (slightly lightly in color and not nearly as dark a head as regular pannepot). the aroma is very similar to regular pannepot but taken down a notch (not as sweet, nutmeg, and other spices), notes of oak, nutmeg, cardamom, and dark fruits. flavor is held together nicely by the oak with some oak, vanilla, dark fruits, and nutmeg. the flavors are toned down, less sweet, and more together than regular pannepot. the finish is drier, slightly sour, and seemingly more complete than regular pannpot. also the mouth feel is fuller than regular pannepot. in the end, it holds a lot of the original pannepot characteristics but less sweet and spices making it mellower and even more drinkable, however, I like the intense sweet and spice notes in the regular panapot so they score the same for me as both are amazing beers for different reasons.

Bottle 75 cl. shared with my self - delicious. Perfect large creamy light brown head with excellent lacing. Lightly cloudy dark brown body. Heavy malt aroma of caramel and grain, oak barrels, heavy alcohol and light hops, brown sugar and spiced - coriander? Full creamy body and soft carbonation. Heavy sweet flavor and light bitter. A great beer.

2007 bottle from De Bierkoning. Very dark brown with a big tan head. Vinous aroma and flavours. richer in the mouth, revealing chocolate, spices, fruit and vanilla. Very complex indeed. Accomplished.

Much thanks to egajdzis for breaking open this treat. 2006 version... Appears a murky brown with a small, fluffy, off white head that slowly fades into a small head and clumpy collar. Plenty of lacing is left around the glass. Smell is of caramel, roasted nuts, vanilla oak, light spices, ripe red cherries, roasted nuts, and a hint of dry sherry. Taste echoes the aromas with a hint of anise and cinnamon poking through the cherries, and caramel. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, smooth, with the sweetness outcharming the spices, which seem to be abundant in the American released version.

Pours murky brown with minimal tan head. Aroma is spicy, cloves, cinnamon, fruity, dates, raisins, wood pokes through, and a nice malty smoothness. Flavor is a bit more cohesive than aroma, nice malty sweetness up front with fruity and woody notes towards the end. Finish is velvety, woody and sweet. Subtle alcohol burn too. Very nice.

750 ML bottle at the Delerium Cafe. Pour is a browish/mahogany with a minimal off white head. Aroma of oak, nutty, earth and subtle fruit. Flavor is wood, tartness and candy sugar...very nice. Nice palate, very smooth. I hope this makes it to my area sometime soon.
