Commercial Description:
The Pannepot Reserva was an idea from my brew collegue Carlo who wanted to age Pannepot in genuine French oak barrels (barrique 225 liters). We have brewed 90HL at the end of 2005 which has been aging on oak ever since (14 months). 30 Hl was bottled Tuesday 8th May 2007. 60Hl has been transferred now to second hand calvados oak vessels and will be bottled again early autumn 2007, we will name that batch Pannepot Grand Reserva. As quality and results rule at Struise, the Reserva was already brewed again and aging on oak.

FRO Throwdown: 2005 bottle. Dark brown, foamy. Chocolate and dry cocoa powder nose. Caramel candy. Nice and sweet but well balanced by a semi-sweet chocolate finish, with hints of caramel and fruit.

thanks to tronraner for bringing this to Springslicker’s fish fry - Very complex, very tasty. Mix of blackberry, oaky, cherry and orther fruity notes mixed with a lot of woodsy aromas. As nice as it smells, it tastes even better - all of the wood and fruit that was in the aroma, plus red wine, chocolate, maybe some coffee, too. Very, very good.

(750ml bottle) Pours a cloudy mahogany body with a thick dense beige head. A complex aroma of toffee, chocolate, cookie dough, dates, figs, vanilla, roasted nuts, butterscotch, and a touch of anise. Flavor of figs, dates, cinnamon, dark caramel, roasted malts, coriander, and nutmeg with a dry finish.

Thanks to MaltOMeal for this 2006 bottle! Shared with MaltOMeal and thickfreakness. Pours a dark brown with a tan head that leaves pretty lacing. Nose is brown sugar, pitted dark fruits, oak and winter spices, including nutmeg. Strong fruit flavor of plums and figs. Sugar and white pepper give extra levels to this beer. Palate has a rich sweetness and covering mouthfeel. This is a well layered beer...enjoyed every sip. Thanks for sharing Bill.

Bottle shared by Egajdzis. Pours about the same as the other Pannepots- deep woody amberish brown with a foamy cobwebby head and nice lace. Aroma is mostly fruityesters- raisin and plum with licorice hints, some nuts, almond-like, toasty and caramel malts with hints of vanilla. Some phenols as well as more esters develop as it warms- fruity and hints of vanilla phenol and earthy almost plasticy as well- sweetness is a bit more subdued from the barrel and isnt as sharp as the regular- good amount of oak and vanilla but not overdone so it isnt woody or too earthy. Some carmel and molasses sweetness throughout with a smooth light finish- some alcohol hints as it warms. Nice overall, but It wasnt mind blowing.

Bottle courtesy of Immy at Immy’s Backyard Throwdown. 2005 vintage. Murky brown pour with a short tan head. Aroma of dark fruits, caramel, brown sugar, custard and sweet malts. Taste is light cocoa, dark fruits, custard, caramel, light spice, yeast notes, brown sugar, oak and vanilla notes. Very tasty! Body is medium and chewy with dense, tingly carbonation. Ends with more dark fruit notes, soft spice, oak, caramel, custard, brown sugar and chocolate. Yummy!
