Commercial Description:
The Pannepot Reserva was an idea from my brew collegue Carlo who wanted to age Pannepot in genuine French oak barrels (barrique 225 liters). We have brewed 90HL at the end of 2005 which has been aging on oak ever since (14 months). 30 Hl was bottled Tuesday 8th May 2007. 60Hl has been transferred now to second hand calvados oak vessels and will be bottled again early autumn 2007, we will name that batch Pannepot Grand Reserva. As quality and results rule at Struise, the Reserva was already brewed again and aging on oak.
Latest bottling: april 08

Nearly black, opaque body with slight red hues. Large and dense off-white head. Huge aroma, layer upon layer. Strong liqourice, spices (cinnamon), caramel, dark fruits, and a nice oak presence (more vanilla). Deep malty taste, very assertive and complex. Starts out aggressive, with a spicy bite, then the fruity sweetness takes over, and the oak elements start to come out more. The finish is very long, with strong liqourice notes, and a bit of tartness - it finishes surprisingly dry! Dense mouthfeel, suits the beer perfectly. Excellent.

Bottle @ Københavnske Øldage 2007 in Copenhagen. [HUGE thanks to the Struise guys for making this happen] Hazy dark amber color with a average frothy fair lacing mostly diminshing beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, moderate to heavy yeasty, very complex aroma of gum, wood, alcohol, vintage, oaky fruity. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, very nice and good balance. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. One off the very best beers ;o)) Please give me more of this stuff, it is brilliant ;o))

Bottle @ Øl festivalen 2007 in Copenhagen. [HUGE thanks to the Struise guys for making this happen] A huge crowd of RateBeerians was gathered around three tables as the great stuff arrived directly from Belgium. The question was, could they surpass the already legendary Pannepot. Initial appearance was small creamy beige head that mostly diminished. Properly coursed by the oak aging as the regular Pannepot had a very foamy appearance. Still some good lacework was displayed. Colour was muddy dark brown. At first sniff the aroma appeared somewhat weak. Mostly because it was too cold. As it warmed up, an explosion of notes appeared. Especially the Oak and wood/vanilla aroma became evident. Also notes of apricot, caramel, liquorish, cinnamon, fruit, molasses, light chocolate, prune, spice, date, and soy sauce….yes the list goes on and on. Full bodied with an average carbonation and every so lightly warming alcoholic texture. Unbelievably well balanced flavour. The mouthful was just so round and creamy like. This goes down so smooth. The most incredible lingering sweet finish.

Barrel aged Pannepot all I can say is WOW.The smoothness that the barrel aging adds is over the top and if there were any edges on Pannepot. Which I never detected any Panny by itself is a World Class brew. The barrel aging adds a whole new depth to this Struise masterpiece. All the wonderfull flavors from the Pannepot the carmel vanilla spice smoothness and the added aroma of the oak aging truly push this beer into a aficionados cellar collection to be savored. My highest praise . A true masterpiece. Its METAL

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a very dark reddish brown with a small tan head and an intense aroma of ripe fruits (cherries, plums, grapes), caramel, sweet malts, sweet chocolate, honey, liquorice and some spices. The flavor is sweet with more sour notes coming in later on. Notes of toffee, ripe plum, cherries and grapes, oak, candy sugar, cognac, whiskey, brown chocolate and yeast. A long, partly bitter, but more sweet and whiskey-like finish. A great beer!

Intens dark brown, chesnut like in colour with red highlights and creamy beige head on top. Aroma is very winelike and refined complex. It has a rich malty character with hints of coffee Port-wine and dried fruits. The taste is full, elegant and very soft. It is less stout like then the regular one but the Quadruple character in this beer is more present. Aftertaste is long, complex soft malty and nicely bread like. A tuely great beer with a longlasting aftertaste.
