Pours a dark brown, almost black colour with a large, frothy beige head. Reddish undertones. Fragrant aroma of dark fruits, cinnamon, cloves, brown sugar, vanilla, caramel nutmeg, and alcohol. Flavor is an instant punch to the palate, prunes, and fig, and booze, brown sugar, and a hint of vanilla, lots of carbonation and a great deal of spice. Cinnamon jumps out at me. Medium to thick mouthfeel and not much for a finish. Great beer too bad i only have one more. jcr (1179), Jasper, Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jun 7, 2009 Updated: Aug 28, 20092007 bottle. 1000th rating shared with SpudClampDawg (one of many beers shared with him over the past four years). Big frothy brown head that recedes into pools. Hazy deep brown body with some ruby notes. Heavy malt and yeast aroma of caramel, raisin, plum, dark cherry, brown sugar, mustiness and vanilla. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter with a alcohol (rum-like) bite. Tastes of mustiness and licorice inger. There is an underlying flavor of medecine, but not enough to be offensive. Moderately dry. Medium to full body with a creamy/velvety texture. Lively carbonation. Lots of yeasty complexity. It would be difficult to drink lots of this because of the sweetness, despite that being balanced by the peppery alcohol finish. Still, its depth makes it an interesting and enjoyable Belgian Strong Ale. Here’s to many more, Spud.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 7, 2009 Rating 1000 - thanks to jcr (my Dad) for sharing this bottle with me for our millenial rating. It’s been a long, enjoyable ride getting to this point with you. Oh, and I’m sure I owe you a beer or two...:
The cap popped with a some pressure and the head began to slowly climb as soon as it was removed. I was able to pour a glass, but it was 90% head, so we had to wait for it to settle. It did settle, nicely, leaving a ton of webbing on the sides of the tulip. A tannish head rests on top of the deep brown body. The aroma is deep and fruity with a healthy dose of ripe plums, overripe banana, burnt caramel and ethery alcohol. The body continues in the same vein - lots of plummy and sweet malts mixed with a heavy dose of alcohol. Esthery pear and apple prick the tongue. Something a bit tart, almost cherry juice, hits the back of the tongue on the way down. Wow - a real belly warmer as the alcohol sits in the gut for a few seconds. Not the best BSA I’ve had, but a quite enjoyable bottle to share on this occassion. Cheers Dad! Garrat (1132), Suffolk, England
