Very grape-like nose in fact. Brown beer by the way, with a frothy head. Flavors were very fig-like and had lots of raisin notes as well. Some solid bitterness was behind it all too. Again, the fig and raisin flavors dominate but there’s also nice red wine character riding along. Overall, its a nice, clean, full bodied malty ale, but I will certainly need to spend some more time with it if im going to be giving it the high scores that others have. daknole (2975), Plantation, Florida, USA

Pours a dark, dark brown with a tan color head that coats the glass with each sip. Aromas are brown sugar, syrup, dried dark fruit, spice. Thick and creamy the sweetness is just so beautiful. Dried fruits on the tongue, honey, molasses, mmmmmm hell yeah. durhambeer (1219), Durham, USA

Had it a year or so ago and forgot how good. Fig and raisin heavy on the nose, along with brown sugar and lots of spices which are so well-blended that I can’t quite pick out any single one... coriander? cinnamon? Similar on the tongue, with some cocoa and some smoky notes coming out. A little soy and licorice as well. Perfect palate: fizzy and light despite the sweetness and high alcohol. jetfande (8), , Alabama, USA does not count | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 4/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 14, 2008 Interesting to say the least. Nice color, spices definitely play a key role in this one, small, uniform carbonation, overall quite a treat, however, based on the hype I thought this would be more enjoyable. 2006 Vintage. | 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Aug 14, 2008 I didn’t like this beer, poured quite a bit down the drain. Sticky mouth feel. Disgustingly sweet and sugary. Too much alcohol warmth and not enough hops to create balance. Not drinkable or enjoyable - this just isn’t my cup of tea.
