Commercial Description:
In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

2006 bottle. Dark brown with thick and big head. Amazing lace. Nose is coconut, pineapple, cherry wine, calvados, slightly port vinous and alcoholic. Quite exotic. Flavor has dried fruits, ripe banana, port wine, almond, roasted malts and slight dash of hops. A bit of everything, but still somehow restrained. Strong, but warming alcohol. Bittersweet and tannic palate. Medium to full bodied, smooth enough carbonation. Sounds amazing, but overall a bit too alcoholic. So we’ll meet again in a couple of years, some sunny day.

2006 bottle. Pours dark with huge tan head. Great lacing. The smell was of bread, vinous fruit and spices. Taste was of spices, bread, vinous and other dark fruit. Mouthfeel was medium and very smooth with slight carbonation and slight bitterness up front, but not at the finish. This was complex waves of flavors and mouthfeel that was luxurious to the senses. Fantastic!

2006 bottle. Pours dark brown with nice pearly light brown head. In nose plenty of prunes and other dark fruits. I catch coffee and herbal stuff here too. Creamy smooth mouthfeel. Fantastic spicy taste of brown sugar mixed with dark fruits. End up with the warmth from the alcohol.

2006 Bottle from Bier Tempel, Brussels. Huge, lively pour with a chestnut brown colour and massive, yet short-lived, tan head. Lots of floaters too. Aromas of liquorice, brown sugar and dark fruit. Flavour was sweet with plenty of malt, nutmeg and some earthy hops that added depth to the finish. Alcohol was fairly prominent, which perhaps detracted a bit from an otherwise excellent beer.

Bottle at Kulminator. Pours with a dark brown color, aromas are of some spice that I cannot name. Some spices in the flavor profile, fruit and a bit of a kick add to the usual caramel and molasses profile. This is unique beer that has a very smooth finish.

Pours a beautiful deep brown mahogany with a carbonated, tight bubbled head that takes up about half of the tulip and VERY gradually fades. Nose is sweet, with dried figs and raisins, along with some brown sugar. The flavor is similar, with a smooth and sweet mid to finish, along with tangy fruit sweetness that is really unique in this ale. It ends clean and abrubtly, not lingering around. Quite creamy on the palate. Excellent.
