First off I have to preface this by saying that Quads are not exactly my thing and I haven’t had a lot of experience with them. That being said...
My friend tasting it with me says it looks like coca-cola, and I have to agree. Nose is totally odd and unique and extremely complex. At first I thought it smelled like old, concentrated cotton candy. Then my friend pointed out that she thought it had a fragrance like banana Laffy Taffy (which it certainly does). There is just a load of things going on with this nose. Flavor is spice forward. Very sugary sweet like brown sugar and a slight biting alcohol presence. After a swallow and it settles on my tongue I get a heavy coffee aftertaste. The feel has a coffee flair to it as well. Like old coffee that was brewed with five times too many grinds. Extremely drinkable. But this puppy is heavy of course and I bet after some time in the cellar, it would even out and be even better. Highly suggested.
Todeon (211), Höllviken, Sweden Oct 6, 2008 Bottle @ home. Aroma is wonderful with lots of dark fruit and spicey notes. Almost black in color. Taste is spicey with lots of caramel and dark fruit. A bit alcohol in the finish. Joakgust (88), Stockholm, Sweden Oct 3, 2008 Bottle SB&WF-08 - Unclear ruby amber colored beer with a dense head. Aroma is spicy, malty and vinous with strong notes of caramel and ripe fruit. Flavor is very malty and sweet with notes of spices and caramel. Full bodied, powerful and well balanced. Highly recommended! dogfish120love (76), west hartford, Connecticut, USA Oct 2, 2008 When I opened the bottle it foamed over onto the counter and appeared brown, but when poured it sits in the glass a dark brown, almost so much that it is black. The head is a frothy light tan or off white.I’m getting a hint of bannana, alcohol, oat, and spice, one of the best smelling beers i have had. Taste:hints of banana, sweet syrupy flavor, caramel cinnamon, and alcohol. The sweetness of this beer masks the alcohol nicely. This is an addition to my top ten list. Alraomon (63), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Sep 29, 2008 A nice, deep brown... the head on here leaves a beautiful, creamy looking sheet that seems that it will continue to stick around until drinking begins. It’s a lighter tan.
This smells beautiful... toffee scents, a definite spiciness... I can’t make out all of what is coming together there; it’s all rather complex and rich. Cinnamon? Allspice? Clove? A little chocolate, and hints of dark fruit - raisin and date.
A delicious medley of malt roast, spices, toffee, dark fruits, some spotty notes of anise, maybe (most notable post-finish). Alcohol makes an appearance, but there’s plenty else going on here to not pay attention to it - that’s to say, it’s not really ’hidden’; it’s just a little part of the bigger picture.
Full body, somewhat creamy, somewhat foamy. A very nice feeling brew, with a pleasant warming on the way down. It’s rather candy-like and makes for an incredibly easy drinker. It’s somewhat tempting to drink it quickly, but exercising some patience is very rewarding. An excellent take at the style, and would do very well among some of the abbey brews. Pick it up if you come by it. Excellent stuff.
stobbe74 (254), Denmark Sep 29, 2008 Bottle, 33cl. Pours a redbrown beer with a big lightbrown head. At first the aroma is strange and very complex. The aroma is roasted malt, sweetness and hops (blackberries). The flavor is molasses or dark syrup with dark malts. Almost no hopflavor. The mouthfeel is bold, and the overall impression is complex.
