Another top fifty beer. Thanks for sharing, Duane. The dark red body had a medium tan colored head. The aroma was iced tea with peaches and ginger. There was also a definite chocolate note. The taste was initially sweet chocolate cake. There was also some toffee and mild Red Delicious apples. A very soft mouthfeel and the alcohol isn’t detected. A solid beer. Sampled again from a 330 ml bottle of the {Us 2006 version. Still, a soild beer, but not extraordinary.

Aug 19, 2008 Vinous nose with notes of raisin, red-grape, and significant malt with a fun musty character behind it. Very grape-like nose in fact. Brown beer by the way, with a frothy head. Flavors were very fig-like and had lots of raisin notes as well. Some solid bitterness was behind it all too. Again, the fig and raisin flavors dominate but there’s also nice red wine character riding along. Overall, its a nice, clean, full bodied malty ale, but I will certainly need to spend some more time with it if im going to be giving it the high scores that others have.

Aug 16, 2008 Bottle and wow what a beer!! Holy crap! Pours a dark, dark brown with a tan color head that coats the glass with each sip. Aromas are brown sugar, syrup, dried dark fruit, spice. Thick and creamy the sweetness is just so beautiful. Dried fruits on the tongue, honey, molasses, mmmmmm hell yeah.

Aug 14, 2008 33cl bottle. Deep brown pour with beige head. Good god, this is good. Had it a year or so ago and forgot how good. Fig and raisin heavy on the nose, along with brown sugar and lots of spices which are so well-blended that I can’t quite pick out any single one... coriander? cinnamon? Similar on the tongue, with some cocoa and some smoky notes coming out. A little soy and licorice as well. Perfect palate: fizzy and light despite the sweetness and high alcohol.
