Commercial Description:
In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

Pours a dark semi clear with a reddish brown hue with thick sudsy bubble floating on the top, very good head. While it faded quick it was good looking for a while. The nose is full of sour notes mainly raspberry blended with caramel. As you sip on it the flavor is very acidic and contains black current and it is full of dark fruits. it is a bit herbal and fruity. The finish is nice and subtle and dry, very similar to a weak merlot with hints of blackberry. Overall the carbonation fades quick. Cheers to Drink4Satan for sharing this with me

2007 vintage to celebrate rating #150: Dark brown, almost black in colour with a beige head. Incredibly complex aroma: the first thing that came to my mind was blueberries and cherry syrup; dark caramel malts and peppery spices, wood and sherry. Tastes very sweet, usually people describe roasted malt flavours as dark chocolate, but this reminds me more of sweet milk chocolate. Raisiny malty goodness with a lovely, distinct berry-like fruitiness coming from the alcohol I assume. I’m amazed how clean and accessible this beer remains at 10% ABV. Simply a masterpiece.

This beer starts off with a really nice nose of yeast, dark fruit, alcohol, and hints of chocolate. Flavors are similar, but not quite as strong or as flavorful as the nose. Overall, a nice beer.

I think that this version of pannepot is the best of all. Very smooth at all and absolutely one of my favourites. Just a half step over the others.

Bottle, 33cl. Pours very alluring dense and dark mahogany, with generous off-white head. Extremely complex aroma of sweet dark fruits, chocolate, liquorice, spices and caramel. Quite sour on the palate, slighty too much so for me (compared to the Reservas), but a cracking ale nonetheless.

Bottle. 11.2 oz. Pours deep, deep brown, nearly opaque, with a finger, beige head. Aroma of raisins, apples, wine, scotch, vinegar, malts, yeast, and caramel. Medium body with a beautiful, warm blossom in the finish. This brew is perfectly balanced; sour and sweet are balanced; heavy and smooth alike. Outstanding Belgian strong, and, thus far, one of my favorite brews that I have sampled. Highly recommended.

From bottle at Cambrinus. Mellow rich sweet aroma. Malty with roasted grain, overripe plum and bitter hops. A bit of fruity esters but not a lot going on in the nose. Dark brown black clear with thin tan head. Medium-heavy body with medium carbonation. Starts sweet and malty with plum and macerated fruit tang. Alcohol warming with medium bitter finish. Roasted grain or barley. A bit thin at the finish.
