Small 330 ml bottle (2007) from Cracked Kettle. Simply beautiful appearance: dark brown with a beige, large bubbly head leaving a small. steady espresso head as it quite rapidly dissipates. Definitely some milk chocolate in the aroma but also some sourness, apples and some strong notes of herbs, nuts, figs and an undertone of alcohol. Roasted, sweet malts and coffee are strong in the flavor as well as nuts, some mild sourness (apples) and spices. A subtle burn of alcohol and a lovely dry, roasted maltiness in the aftertaste. Quite full yet well-carbonated in the palate, actually the contrast is quite nice. Definitely a tasty beer, but to be honest, not as fantastic as I expected. Maybe Pannepot Reserva will fill my expectations fully.

Dec 20, 2009 Very nice Belgian. Dark brown with a small head. Aroma is strong of malt and alcohol. Taste is malt, molasses, vanilla and an alcohol warmth.

Dec 16, 2009 Updated: Dec 17, 20092007 vintage to celebrate rating #150: Dark brown, almost black in colour with a beige head. Incredibly complex aroma: the first thing that came to my mind was blueberries and cherry syrup; dark caramel malts and peppery spices, wood and sherry. Tastes very sweet, usually people describe roasted malt flavours as dark chocolate, but this reminds me more of sweet milk chocolate. Raisiny malty goodness with a lovely, distinct berry-like fruitiness that is elevated by the alcohol. I’m amazed how clean and accessible this beer remains at 10% ABV. Simply a masterpiece.

Dec 12, 2009 This beer starts off with a really nice nose of yeast, dark fruit, alcohol, and hints of chocolate. Flavors are similar, but not quite as strong or as flavorful as the nose. Overall, a nice beer.

Dec 9, 2009 I think that this version of pannepot is the best of all. Very smooth at all and absolutely one of my favourites. Just a half step over the others.

Dec 7, 2009 Bottle, 33cl. Pours very alluring dense and dark mahogany, with generous off-white head. Extremely complex aroma of sweet dark fruits, chocolate, liquorice, spices and caramel. Quite sour on the palate, slighty too much so for me (compared to the Reservas), but a cracking ale nonetheless.

Dec 4, 2009 Bottle. 11.2 oz. Pours deep, deep brown, nearly opaque, with a finger, beige head. Aroma of raisins, apples, wine, scotch, vinegar, malts, yeast, and caramel. Medium body with a beautiful, warm blossom in the finish. This brew is perfectly balanced; sour and sweet are balanced; heavy and smooth alike. Outstanding Belgian strong, and, thus far, one of my favorite brews that I have sampled. Highly recommended.
