Pours dark brown with ruby edges. One finger tan head leaves a thin collar with little lacing. Raisin, fig, anise, and tobacco on the nose, with other scents that are hard to pinpoint. Flavor is a bit fruitier, but is nicely balanced with the spice and earth notes. Big bubbled carbonation leaves the finish a bit too dry, but it is quite drinkable. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 25, 2008 A red dark amber to brown ale with a thick light moka head. A nice licorice malt with light fruity esters, alcohol warmth. In mouth, licorice predominates with light white sugar, plums and dark fruits, a bit lighter than expected but overall, a nice experience. Enjoyed in bottle at Kulminator, Nov. 2006, with Joris and Carlo.

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 23, 2008 I asked for this beer at Bier Circus in Brussels, and the bartender told me that they didn’t stock it because the brewers were not ’’real brewers’’ or words to that effect. However, I found the beer at Beer Mania, and real brewers or not, I found both this at the Old Fisherman’s Ale to be quite good beers.
Poured a dark brown after exploding out of the bottle onto the counter and floor. Minimal head despite the overcarbonation. Aroma was complex - malty, sweet, with dried fruit notes and lots of slightly roasty maltiness accented by cherry notes. Full mouthfeel hit me first - you pucker a bit like a red wine full of tannins - the flavor is some coffee and dried fruit. I thought it tasted a bit like apricots and dried cherries. Delicious.
I would highly recommend this beer. alexsdad06 (1124), Ohio, USA

The aroma is caramel malt, fruity like you find in many Belgians, spices, moderate sweetness, alcohol and a hint of banana. The flavor is more sweet dark malts up front. Caramel, dark fruits (raisin, cherries), spices and alcohol. I think the alcohol is more noticable than the regular version. The balance and complexity don’t seem to be on the same level as the regular version either. This is a solid beer, but I prefer the regular better.. jerc (3964), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Sweet alcoholic aroma, sugars, dark fruit. (7+) Sweet flavour, dark sugars again, lightly scorched caramel. Lightly tangy fruit notes towards the finish, very light alcohol presence is quite restrained. (8+) Smooth medium bodied palate. (4+) Really quite good. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 14, 2008 2006. Deep, dark purple body with a rich, well lacing off-white head. Plum, chocolate, rum, oak, and much more in the nose. Heavy phenols with loads of dark fruits. The taste is very potent, with lots of molasses, plums, dates, raisins, honey, spice, and tons more. A really great brew, and I’m sure would cellar nicely.
