Aroma is enticingly sweet. Candy and brown sugar. medium malt, some dark fruit tones.
Flavour is a little lighter than I expected. Very well balanced. Initially sweet malt, some raisin and dark fruit tones. slight alc bitterness through the middle. Finishes very smooth.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 30, 2008 Bottle pours a deep brown with a thin beige foam that falls immediately to a skim of fine bubbles around the rim of the glass. Aroma of dark fruit, sweet malt, raisin, brown sugar with an earthy & spicy element. Flavor is initially rather intense brown sugary sweetness with more dark fruit, figs and raisins. As that fades, dates & plums with a very faint wisp of alcohol and a very light tangy sensation like grape/apple skins. Finishes clean with a moderately thin palate and lightly carbonated. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 19, 2008 Bottle tasted at Uber Tavern. So I have not been able to do the vertical test with the darker Pannepot, so I feel a bit blind in this rating. Regardless, I picked up many of the same notes from the cousin in this beer, just with a much rounder and less potent presence. Still chocolatey, mildly roasty and sweet, plum still exists, even a bit of banana. Lots of spice thrown in the mix. Mainly, its almost the same to me, just without the punch. Excellent beer! | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 18, 2008 33cl bottle at home: Very deep and dark hazy chestnut brown, almost black. Bubbly medium dark head collapses somewhat quickly. Aromas of dark malt, brown sugar, and raisins. Coffee and tree-bark add a nice earth note. Dark spices run underneath the sweetness. A bit of aniseed. Alcohol is easily roused from the glass. Starts out quite sweet in the mouth. Moves to sugared mocha latte for a second before roast and alcohol break things up a bit. Sweet caramel malt. Alcohol soaked prunes come and go in the middle. Something lightly tangy, for lack of a better word, plays with the alcohol and sugar. Towards the end there is again prune but this time with alcohol and a touch of molasses. A touch of oxidation perhaps on the end too? Full mouthfeel with an odd dustiness on the tip of the tongue. Very nice beer, but I prefer the original pannepot. AgentSteve (1374), SF Bay Area, California, USA
