| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 11, 2007 (Thanks to radiomgb.) 330 mL bottle from 2006. It’s translucent ruby/orange/brown, if that’s possible, with little head. The aroma is sweet, with dried candied fruit and candi sugar being prominent, and there is the slight aroma of alcohol. The taste is much the same, although it does not seem out of balance. You can detect dark honey, sweet fruit, spice, and a slight alcohol burn, with a little bitterness in the finish. The body is very full. Sweet, but a very good beer. OldMrCrow (1200), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 11, 2007 Bottle served quite warm (maybe 100 minutes out of the fridge) but not quite room temperature.
I opened this one to celebrate the birth of my first niece earlier this evening. It’s exceptional. The pour is dark, dark brown with a modestly-sized rather coarse and sudsy head. (Despite the inelegant description, it was very pretty and almost deserves a 5 for appearance.) Aroma has a lot going on: molassas and nutmeg, apple and raisin. There’s even more going on in the flavor, to the point that it almost seems to be a hodgepodge at first sip - though as one enjoys instead of analyzing it leaves little to be desired. Caramel apple with hints of sour oak, chocolate-covered toffee, again the nutmeg and mulling spice, dried plums. Hops are way in the background. The mouthfeel is exceptionally creamy, again nearly cloying at the first sip but mellowing as one goes forward to this exceptionally creamy milkshake showing exactly no hint of the 10% in heat, only in density.
I don’t want to analyze; this was a beer to savor and a beer that was hard to drink slowly. Wonderful. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 10, 2007 330ml bottle. Pefectly formed creamy mocha colored head on top of a dark purple and garnet colored body. Heavy fruit scented yeast esters in the nose: dates, plum, walnut, sweet. Flavor is similar, amplified by a really pleasent creamy soft palate. A bit too sweet and spicy (chemicals) up front, and over the middle it’s more of a artificial candy sweetness, like jolly ranchers. Ends on a down note, with a lingering coating of this same artificial-like sweetness, but also with a lighter nut and fruit (trail mix?) note. 5000 (2600), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 9, 2007 Bottle: Muddy brown, hues of burnt caramel, moderate to thin off-white head, dies quickly, lacing is sparce.   Wonderful
combination of licorice, dark pitted fruits, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, and all-spice.   This smells so good!   Has a minor pumpkin
type flair.   Sweet malts on the tongue, almost candyish in nature.   Dark pitted fruit, spices, just wonderful.   Doesn’t
appear to be all that thick, and in fact seems somewhat watery for a Belgian.   However, the alcohol is very well hidden.   One of
the easier 10% beers I have ever drank... wow!   I do find it odd that it does feel almost thin.   Carbonation is low.   Quite
different from Pannepot.   Flavorful finish, licorice and dark pitted fruit.   On the sweeter side, but because its not heavy its
not cloying at all.   Similar in flavor profile to Pannepot, but just not there in mouthfeel or body.   Still delicious tho!

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 9, 2007 Pours a dark brownish ruby with a medium creamy/bubbly tan head that left lacing. Aroma of caramel, dark fruits, toffee, Belgian yeast, fruity, a mix of various spices, earthy and a touch of alcohol. Flavor of nuts, dark fruits, roast, toffee, a mix of spices that are nice but hard to narrow down, earthy, bready and Belgian yeast. On the dry side which really helps pull this beer together. gunnfryd (3603), Kristiansand, Norway
