Opens with a lot of CO2. No gushing. The pour is a challenge with all of the CO2. Huge lasting white frothy head. The aroma is huge caramel backed by vinous sherry notes, dark fruits, and barnyard character. A rich lush body that is made more drinkable by the high level of CO2. The flavors are instantly sweet caramelized malt and dark cabernet. The wild yeast characters of the beer make the vinous character come out in full force. The finish is sweet and satisfying with a ever so light dryness once the fluid has left the mouth. A great Belgian dark ale.

Nose is raisins, alcohol, caramel and plums. Taste is raisins, dried figs, alcohol and spices. This beer is really nice and sweet. Lingers deliciously of more raisins, with nice carbonation. Quite mellow and the age has done this some big favors. No hint of alcohol whatsoever. madmitch76 (645), , Essex, England

Flav.: Lots of orange peel and tangy fruit, plenty of brown sugar and molasses, sour cherries, organic acids, lighter woodiness, a touch of vanilla, warm spices; quite sweet with some alcohol and a lingering aftertaste of orange-flavoured dark chocolate.
I don’t like it as much as the original, but still a great beer. trapez (825), Hilleroed, Denmark

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 23, 2009 The label on my bottle has the Ø with the slash through it, so I’m rating accordingly. (The labels on this site are very ambiguous. My bottle says 2006 while the label for the non-slashed-Ø has 2006 on the item picture for that version of this beer.) Delicious stuff, definitely thick on the brown-sugary, figgy aspects. I actually don’t pick up a whole lot else though. Just a very pleasing flavor. Little bit of grassiness, just a touch, there on the finish. danielst (148), Vienna, Austria
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 6, 2009 Bottled 2007. The structure of the aroma reminds of excellent wine or champagne. Dark cherry fruitiness with notes of herbs and bitter chocolate underneath. Very malty and complex. Pours dark brown with a small, off-white rim. The flavour is again sweet malty, the spicing is very evident, resulting in a cuvée of flowery and herbal flavours. There are slightly smokey and roasty components, but a fine caramel maltiness is the most prominent. Lovely bittersweet finish. Mouthfilling, with a bit too much residual sweetness for my liking - otherwise a damn good beer. mar (1903), Dallas, Texas, USA
