Commercial Description:
The Noordhoek Ostrich Farm and Resort has been offering visitors an oasis of silence, tranquility and green pasture since 1997. In 2001 we began offering our guests fresh, homemade ale, "Struise Witte" was born. The dutch word for "ostriches" is "struisvogels" or "Struise", but the same word can also mean "sturdy" or "robust". This "Robust White" is a living wheat beer of high fermentation, unfiltered and unpasteurized. Brewed with natural ingredients, bottle conditioned in 33 cl bottles.

Pours a light golden color with a nice bubbly white head. The head was very sticky, but dissapated rather quickly. The smell was of spices, maltiness and a metalic hint to it. The taste didn’t thrill me, a little to watery or something. I tasted malt, wheat and spices. Decent Witbier.

Bottled. We had a mini-tasting at Sigmunds hotel-room before we went to a beer-dinner, and this one and the Kloeke blond from the same brewery volcanoed all over the floor. Poor cleaning lady. Well, when we finally had some in our glasses, it looked a bit unclear, golden-orange and with a nice, white head. Quite malty nose for a wit, with caramel and a weak hoppiness. Malt, caramel and some spicy hints in the flavor. Medium body and a short finish with malt and some hops. A bit too malty for a wit, and a much more interesting aroma than flavor. The volcano-like behaviour when we opened it, was probably due to the too high serving temperature. (070317)

75 cl bottle. Golden too pale amber colour with a nice head. Nice light aroma of fresh fruit, citrus and yeast. Flaovur of wheat yeast little sour-like. Ends up very soft and yeasty and with a weak mouthfeel.

33 cl bottle, courtesy of gunnfryd, who supplied it to our tasting. The ABV was 5.0%. Served at room temperature, which was too warm, and caused the beer to gush out of the bottle when opening. Hazy golden colour, moderate head. Surprisingly malty aroma, plenty of coriander. Moderately spicy flavour.

Golden with a nice head. The aroma is nice with notes of wheat, fruit, spice and citrus, but also a bit perfumed. I find all these notes in the flavour too, together with light sweetness and the finish is not as citrussy as I would have liked it, and in the long run it’s a bit too perfumed.

Poured a clear light yellow color with a large white head. Light mlat with a hint of spice. Light wheaty nose. Wheaty flavor with a dry finish. Earthy with a hint of bubble gum. Bigger than light bodied with a lively mouthfeel.

Thanks to the Atlanta crew for sharing. Slightly cloudy light gold, pillow head that quickly disappears. Nose is lemon/citrus, slight clove, doughy malt. Flavor is fruit, yeast, clove, spice, doughy malt. Slightly acidic, bitter finish w. spice, dough.

Pale yellow/reddish with nice creamy offwhite head. Really cherry like aroma with some lemon, orange and sweet malt. Fresh and slight sweet and finishes with hint’s of bitterness.
