sayravai (2964), Helsinki, Finland Apr 27, 2008 (Bottled, 0.75l) Hazy golden with a smallish, quite firm, bright white head. Tart and fruity Brettanomyces aroma of sour apples and apricot. Sour apples in the dry flavor with hints of sugary sweetness and moderate acidity in the finish. Like saison and gueuze blended. Pretty crisp and refreshing, mildly tart and acidic mouthfeel with somewhat fizzy carbonation. Pretty good wild yeast experiment, yet a bit too bland to fill the boots of the Cantillon glass I drank it from :).
lgklotet (396), Stockholm, Sweden Jul 8, 2008 Bottle, thanxs Omhper. Golden pale appearance. Subtle Brett. Floral funk. Wood is not so present. Not very sour. But very enjoyable nonetheless, just not top-knotch. The_Captain (230), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 7, 2008 Bottle - Apple juice spritzy pour with sour green apple and lemon-orange aroma. Another Belgian Sour that I just can’t seem to quite grasp the complexity. Citrus, sour apples and just not the full body I’m looking for. beermaniac (83), Pennsylvania, USA Jul 6, 2008 Aroma: Barnyard and cherry pie Brett character. Very fruity, pleasant.
Appearance: Hazy blond with quickly fleeting white head.
Flavor: Moderate sourness, with accompanying fruity/musty brett character. No hop, no malt flavor, dry finish.
Palate: Dry finish, light body leads to a sour finish.
Overall Impression: Golden ale fermented with Brett and Pedio. That about sums it up. aracauna (2195), Georgia, USA Jul 2, 2008 Pours the color of apple juice with a fleeting head. I should have guess from the "ensis" ending that this was a sour beer, but I didn’t and was quite shocked by the acidity. Spiced apples in the aroma, the flavor is pleasantly sour, fruity. Tasty, but seems to be lacking something to keep the flavor full. holdenn (1081), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 1, 2008 11.2 oz bottle pours a slightly hazed golden yellow with a white head. I expected a fruity and slightly sour ale, but this is quite sour. Aroma is tart cherries and grape skins with hay and grain notes. Tart flavors that match the cherry and grape skins with vinegar, lemons, pears, and lactic sourness. Lasting sour flavors that leave my palate dry. This could be a bit more layered in flavors and aromas since the sourness mutes the fruit and funk subtleties. But this is a delicious sour ale.
