MesandSim (4623), Highgate, Greater London, England Oct 22, 2007 A Mes rate. Barrel at Nottingham Beer Festival.
Dark golden brown colour. Looks more like a bitter than a cider. Guessing it was nearing the end of the barrel. Aroma of unburnt matches, lovely juicy apple and some very slight sulphur. Doesn’t sound to great I know but I liked it. Slightly metallic flavour but still very tasty. Lots of tree bearing fruit, apples obviously but pears and other stuff too. Oaky, earthy and pretty damn tasty. Much more dry than medium. Feels ok at first but as soon as you swallow it rids the mouth of water. Very good. Oh, it was showing as being 8%. Mungo (2474), Southampton, Hampshire, England Jan 3, 2007 Dec 06 Sampled from the barrel @ Middle Farm, Nr Lewes. Plasticy solvent and spirity aroma. Suggestions of sweetness in the mouth with some acidity and an almost dry finish. Not great. Strong fruit and whisky aromas. Golden amber coloured and strong in alcohol with some dryness in a crisp lasting rum flavoured finish. rauchbier (2877), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England Oct 26, 2004 Cask, GBBF 2004. Gold, no head and flat. Enticing aromas of spirity christmas pudding and woody calvados but way too confusing in the mouth with nasty alcoholic apple skin notes and a suggestion of devon fudge. Dry and fudgy in the finish.
chriso (4420), London, Greater London, England Sep 6, 2004 It has a pretty traditional aroma, but its hidden under a rather overwhelming rum presence - very reminiscent of rum and raisin ice cream. The palate is not particularly dry or assertive and the fruit flavours are rather muted. Rum again dominates, with some toffee. I rather liked it though. From the barrel at GBBF 2004.
