ElGaucho (1719), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Feb 26, 2008 Draft at Winterfest 2008, St. Paul, MN. Coffee in the nose; dry and chalky, but strong. Very dark body, almost opaque. Lighter tan tight bubble head that reveals its caskness. Not as good, strong or sweet as Surly Coffee Bender. Ok, but nothing spectacular.
BDR (1850), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Feb 11, 2008 Smooth coffee nose with no hint of bitterness. Coffee flavor is smooth and well integrated with a dry finish. Winterfest 2008 Skyview (2641), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Feb 10, 2008 Cask drawn during the Winterfest 2008 in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a creamy and thick off-white head that slowly dissipates to a white ring. Aroma of roasted dark malt with a light coffee that is well balanced with their regular established Great Northern Porter. Taste is medium to full bodied, very little carbonation from being cask drawn with flavors of roasted dark malt, some chocolate and coffee flavors. Finish has a lingering mild bitterness with an aftertaste the has both dark malt and coffee flavors but the coffee taste lingers around a little longer than all other flavors. I hope to see more of the coffee Great Northern Porter in future beer events or even on tap at our local taverns. incutrav (487), Woodbury, Minnesota, USA Feb 9, 2008 On tap Winterfest. This is the GNP from summit with a nice coffee kick. Not as overpowering as Coffee Bender, but a nice smooth coffee blend that really adds a nice aspect to an already great porter. Just enough coffee in there to make sure you know it. Nice hop bite as well, this might have been dry hopped as well, i dont recall. Served on cask.
