Commercial Description:
Summit Extra Pale Ale is not a beer brewed only for beer snobs. Just the opposite. It’s a beer for everyone to enjoy: construction workers, stock brokers, farmers, sales people, clerks, teachers, lawyers, doctors, even other brewers. Its light bronze color and distinctly hoppy flavor have made it a favorite in St. Paul, Minneapolis and the rest of the Upper Midwest ever since we first brewed it back in 1986.

Short stubby brown bottle with a twist off cap. Twist the lid for an off musty initial olfactory impact. This clears to a more hoppy aroma in the glass. A little more orange color than the ubiquitous pale yellow lager. Not quite oppressive hops, but the hop bitter bite is present. Mildly entertaining. Decent medium carbonation. Friendly at times but then it bites back. Hop bitterness is the major attribute during the finish but there is a building malt or alky back of throat bitter bite also.

On tap at La Fonda in Eagan, MN. Had it a thousand times before and I consider it go-to beer. Pours a nice dark golden color with a crisp hoppy nose albeit somewhat weak. Every sip is refreshing and perfectly hoppy. The palate is wonderful and the finish is clean and smooth.

Nothing special, but perhaps the nicest beer I’ve been served at a conference reception. Simple and clean appearance, nicely hopped nose. Taste of simple malts and well hopped with Cascade. Not over the top with hops, but intensely crisp and bitter. Easy to drink.

bottle - Pours copper and clear with a medium sized head that fades to thin and then lingers indefinitely and leaves excellent lacing. The aroma is dominated by the citrus hops. The flavor is mainly those hops (Cascade?) and some light caramel malts. It’s a little watery, lightly carbonated, and very easy to drink. While I’d prefer some more intense flavor and a more full body, this beer would be easy to drink all night.

Rich golden pour with lively white head. The hops dominate the nose...citrus and pine mostly. Flavors are hop-forward as well and nicely balanced by a nice caramel malt, lightly roasted. Decent APA, that sessions well enough.

Bottle: Great pale ale. Good hoppy aroma. Moderate hop palate with a light bitter flavor. I look forward to additional Summit beers.

Bottle thanks to Skyview. Poured clear medium golden with a short, but well-retained cap of beige head. First impression on the aroma was dried detergent.. not a good way to start out.. floral and grassy notes behind backed by some toffee. Flavor had some caramel and grapefruit sweetness at the core (albeit dry and not very tasty).. with a rather heavy and poorly-balanced pine and floral bitterness.. just rough all-around. Lighter-bodied and sharp through most of the palate.. left an ugly medicinal feel on the finish. Not sure what happened here.
