Commercial Description:
Summit Extra Pale Ale is not a beer brewed only for beer snobs. Just the opposite. It’s a beer for everyone to enjoy: construction workers, stock brokers, farmers, sales people, clerks, teachers, lawyers, doctors, even other brewers. Its light bronze color and distinctly hoppy flavor have made it a favorite in St. Paul, Minneapolis and the rest of the Upper Midwest ever since we first brewed it back in 1986.

I’ve lived many places and tried many beers but I keep coming back to this one. What it lacks in distinctiveness it more than compensates for in it’s universal appeal. It always tastes good to me, regardless of weather, food-pairings, or mood. The dry-finish and clean texture make this an every day, always-in-the-fridge beer.

This was the pale ale that introduced me to the genre. Great for a beginner, average, but well crafted.

From draft. Light orange body with a thin lacing head. Light, thin aroma of citrus fruits. Hoppy, fruity, floral flavor that seemed to blend a touch of apricot. Dry hoppy finish.

Pours a hazy golden color. Smells of hops, pine, and citrus. Tastes much the same. A bit metallicy in the finish and very carbonated. This is a refreshing and delightful example of the style.

Alefest ’05 - Average for this style. More thin than those superior beers from Sierra Nevade, Three Floyds, and Stone.

Typical amber color of most pale ales. Aroma is also typical, perhaps somewhat weak. Flavor is a good mix between hops and malt, not too dominated by florality. Maybe a few paper pulp-like elements mixed in, but not in that bad of a sense. Somewhat of a bourbony finish. As do some other raters, I find this a good, average pale ale. Not too much of a bite but not too lame either. Nice rich mouthfeel.

A very high quality if somewhat ordinary pale ale. Not too bitter (not enough for some), not too strong. A good, casual, all-around beer to introduce to people not familiar with the style. Really great fresh on tap at the brewery--really nice people there

Better than expected... bottle poured a hazy, orange-amber with a creamy, almost-beige head that lasted awhile (and made return appearances upon swirling). Fruity, malted aroma, some yeast. Balanced flavor with a nice hop presence, albeit a bit thin.
