Draft sampled at grey lodge. Pours dark brown with a tanhead. Aroma of coffee, and roasted malts. Flavor is malty with coffee, bakers cocoa, and a hint of smoke and has a crisp and hoppy finish.

Not in my top level list but OK. Aroma - faint, yeast, chocolate. Dark brown, almost opaque, brief beige head. Flavor is over bitter for my taste - not enough balance. flavors, linger on the palate nicely. Overall - middle of the road for me.

Very dark brown with tan head. Rather light body for a porter. Bitter, roasty taste with hints of chocolate, coffee, malts and hops. Good porter.

Color is deep brown with a tan head than remains for the entire pint. Aroma is roasty, carmelly and just a bit smoky. Flavor is smooth aside from a slightly astringent bite and some chocolate. Light bodied with brisk carbonation. Some dark chocolate notes come out in the finish along with a lingering roasted bitterness.

An average porter. Pour was a nice deep dark brown with a thin tan ring for a head. Aroma was very weak..mostly coffee and chlorinated water (no I didn’t just wash the glass). Taste was very chocolately with a bitter coffee aftertaste but it was just too thin and watery. Basic porter.

Great Northern Porter was the best beer on tap at The Barley Pop Pub in Germantown, WI last night. I’ve had it before and enjoyed it immensely, but last night was a first for rating. It was nearly as dark and thick in appearance as a stout and had a nice brown head. The aroma was very smoky/roasted malts and some hop sharpness. The mouthfeel was prickly and more full than I was expecting; this is truly an exceptional porter. The flavor was more smoke with some cocoa notes. There was a nice hop bitterness in the finish too, which made for a well-balanced beer. This was a great fortifying porter for a cold and snowy Wisconsin night.

Pours average porter color with a 1.5 finger thin, yet smooth head. Some hops in the nose; black patent and crystal malt smell; milk chocolate. Very smooth, but a bit thinner than I’d like. Burnt malt taste all the way through. Finishes too acidic for my liking.
