Very dark, almost black, with some red highlights, this looks pretty much like a porter. There is more carbonation than is typical. First taste is roasted coffee and there is some zing here. There are extremes of tart hops and sweet malts at work. The back of the tongue is stimulated and the roasted flavor dominates. This is a very drinkable porter. That style is often rather bland but not this one.

A deep dark porter with a thin moka head. A herbal malt and chocolate aroma with light hopping, floral and restrained. Some chick peas develop too. In mouth, a classy robust porter with bitter chocolate, roasted coffee, medium bodied, nice bitterness lingering. Bottle from Piscator, BB July 16 2005, more than 1 yr old. 7-4-8-4-14

Tap version. A deep dark brown porter with a thin light moka head. A pleasant chocolate aroma, with light vanilla, hops and fruity esters. In mouth, a good bitter chocolate with herbal hops, cold coffee, a classic porter. On tap at Ike’s MSP, Sept. 13 2009. 8-3-8-3-14

This is one of the two beers I?happy to have on tap in my basement tavern. A longtime favorite of mine that goes great with a bacon cheeseburger at Shelly’s Woodroast in St Louis Park, MN and with a friend. (Don’t forget the popovers with honey butter!) The aroma is bittersweet with some earth and spice. Pours thick with an opaque, dark brown color. Taste: bitter hops, toffee tones, and chocolatey aftertaste. Yummy! The after bite is most welcome. Over the years this porter remained true and has not changed one bit like some other porters I’ve tried. Thank you Mr. Stutrud for making this porter to be proud to be brewed in Minnesota.

Tap @ Bandera in Chicago, nice dark black with a thick and creamy tan head, great lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, and a hint of burnt espresso. Nice smooth roasted malt taste, clean bittersweet finish.
