Commercial Description:
Summit Porter is very dark, but lighter-bodied than you’d expect, with a robust, malty character and a delightfully sweet finish.

Bottle. Poured opaque black with one finger of head that dissapated quickly. Smells of coffee, a little chocolate. Tastes of toasted malts and a bit of coffee. Not quite as creamy as I would’ve liked but not bad on the palate. Rather have Black Butte, which is my comparison porter.

Summit Great Northern Porter 12 oz bottle Recent brewing, reached 02/07 Medium pour in an English pint Poured black with mahogany highlights with an average light brown somewhat lasting frothy head with fair lacing. Smelt of strong coffee with moderate cola or root beer, anise, dark chocolate and burnt grain. Taste was upfront moderate bitter burnt grain and soy bean followed by a strong coffee and burnt grain taste on a long finish. Palate was light to medium bodied, watery to creamy, lively carbonated and moderately astringent. Overall, this beer tastes black. Nothing poetic here.

Pours a very dark brown with a thick slab of brown foam. A little bit of lace clings to the glass as the head recedes. Expecting more aroma. Wonderful roasted grain with coffee and chocolate. Some hops up front and then a bit of sweetness at the end. Nicely carbonated, smooth texture. Roasted-coffee bitterness sticks around for a bit. For some reason, it seems to have more alcohol than it does.

I actually enjoyed this porter a lot. Poured to an opaque dark brown color, with thick tan head that lingered throughout the glass and left good lacing. Aroma was nuts, chocolate and caramel, and taste followed suit exactly. Body was meidum thickness, and this beer had a warm tingling mouthfeel, all of which led to a long, smooth pleasant finish.

Pours a dark brown with tan head. Aroma has chocolate and roast appeal that is not overpowering. Has a fully body, taste has much of the same as the aroma and finishes dry. Not bad, especially for the cheap price and if you like this style

Dar pour with a thin head. Aroma is very "roasty" with some chocolate and nuts thrown in. Taste was a mix of heavy roasted malts with strong nutty flavors. I like the feel of it, but its a bit too "nutty" for me.

Draft at Old Chicago in Ames, IA. Opaque dark brown color with orange highlights and a thin than head. Smelled initially of minimal malty chocolate, but was more aromatic as the beer warmed. Nice roasty/chocolate malt flavor accented by roasted nut and occasional cocoa powder notes. Slightly sweet on the tongue with a pleasant chocolatey aftertaste rising into the nose.
