Commercial Description:
Summit Porter is very dark, but lighter-bodied than you’d expect, with a robust, malty character and a delightfully sweet finish.

Pours a dark brown with reddish hues and a frothy tan head. The aroma has roasted qualities along with notes of dark chocolate. The flavor has roasted touch and finishes mildly on the palate.

12oz bottle: lacking what i would describe as at least the smell i’ve come to expect from a porter.. i like to smell smoke and burnt malt. this smells sweet. tastes of burnt malts anyway, moderate body and dark malt tastes. no hop that i can detect, but probably just well balanced. pretty good stuff.

Bottle obtained in a trade with <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?U target=blank>piscator34, thanks Kris. Dark brown, near black in colour. Large lingering tan coloured head, lots of lace. The aroma had a light roast, some sweet malts, lightly chalky, smoke and coffee. The flavour had a great roasted maltiness, some hop bit balance, sharp, light coffee. Soft mouthfeel, lackluster body, medium/high carbonation. Finishes roasty with a medium lingering bitterness. Pretty good but its missing something.

Not too sweet and the chocolate and coffee notes are not overbearing. A little like flying dog’s scottish porter but without the sneaky sour note.

The Summit Northern Porter pours a black color with a decent brown head. The aroma of coffee is immediately evident. The taste is mostly of coffee mixed with smokiness, and some bitterness in the end. Not a bad little porter at all. Reminds me of Fuller’s London Porter, but not that good. The mouthfeel is too thin, and the taste is too one dimensional."

Wandering down that road again and lo and behold I find myself in the middle of it once more. Not a bad place, sunny side of the street, yo .. But as I’m no big porter man, what do I know? I know I like this just fine, but not a whole lot more. What I do like is Doug giving me beer even when I’m so stupid that I drink it all like a fish. Thanks to Charles too I suppose ...

This one is tough to rate. It starts off very strong with the flavor of coffee but it was rather hard to finish. Oddly enough though, I kept going back to it. It was pretty good if you can get over the coffee flavor (which I’m a fan of).

Dark brown/black in color with a small tan foamy head. Nice semisweet chocolate and coffee taste. Nice roasted malt aroma.
