Very distinct visible tiny bubbles in the head. Beige head. The aroma is smoked malts and coffee. Needs to be stronger. The flavor is smoked malts, coffee, grass hops. Medium bodied but slick. I like the smokiness. Crash (449), Macomb, Illinois, USA

It didn’t have much aroma but, I was standing in a park with many other smells. Taste was burnt chocolate coffee. Since I’m not a fan of burnt or coffee, didn’t rate real high with me. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Sep 17, 2005 My first impression with this porter was how light the body was. The second thing I noticed was how delicious and ethereal the hops are. Their sweet/sour bitterness fades in and out on the side of my tongue. Mellow, roasted taste, ending with a bittersweet mocha taste. SpecialSauce (47), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 17, 2005 Dark chocolate brown color, slightly dark head that pours a little thick but diminishes to a quarter inch residual head. No lacing to speak of. Smells sweet and earthy and a little bitter. Uniquely bitter taste to this beer, obviously lots of hops. Not quite as smooth as other porters because of this...it’s lacking that nice deep malty flavor that’s in most porters. Leaves a slightly mouth-scouring feel. It is admittedly more drinkable than most porters; it feels like a lighter beer in your mouth. CharlesDarwin (1871), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 17, 2005 BLBF. Hop dominated aroma. Deep clear dark brown por. Typical sweet, yet earthy, oaky, grassy malt flavor. With a good, almost uncharacteristic run of bitter hops. Finish is hop dry. A very typical and solid toasted Porter flavor. I’m beginning to like this style for it’s characteristics and drinkability. tennisjoel (951), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 8, 2005 this was a chocolate brown color. I didnt anticipate much but it had kind of a smoked chocolate thing going one, a good amount of roast. The body is basically the same, chocolate covered nuts in addition to the roasted chocoaltes. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Sep 6, 2005 This was pretty decent, better than I thought it would be. Smells like roasted and chocolate malts, with some slight smokiness and some backyard wood firepit stuff goin on. Also hints of vanilla bean and walnuts. taste is very true to the aroma. roasted and chocolate malts with some smoked wood and nut flavors. nice creamy flavor, but a little thin on the mouthfeel.
