Lots of baker’s chocolate, some caramel, hints of smoke, vanilla, coffee and nuts. Tastes much the same and introduces some concord grape fruitiness. Perhaps a bit light in flavor towards the finish. Mouthfeel is medium and slightly chalky with moderate carbonation. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA

Looks just like you want a porter to look! Aromas of bakers chocolate, caramel, a bit of molasses and some roasted notes. Flavor is chocolate, caramel, vanilla, some roasted nuts, a bit of wood, and a nice expresso note on the back of each sip. Creamy and mouthcoating palate with a nice dry finish.. Very unique flavor. I was pleasantly surprised by this one.. noelcb (271), Toledo, Ohio, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 23, 2005 Ebony black, clear with bubbles all around the bottom of the glass. Nice rocky, bubbly 2-finger tan head which fades quickly leaving a small amount of fine lace. Aromas are chocolate, toast, caramel, vanilla, coffee, butter , hops and molasses. Taste is complex and balanced thanks to the use of 3 malts and 3 hops. First hit is toasty malt, burnt toast, coffee, chocolate, caramel, and brown sugar. Slighty sweet but fairly bitter too. Not too much hop flavor, just the bittering in a nice finish. Mouthfeel is appropriate for a porter. This one is a bit more carbonated than most porters but not unpleasantly so. A refreshing malt brew that’s bitter enough for hop-heads. piscator34 (1134), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Aug 23, 2005 Very dark brown with low carbonation and a lasting head. Good roasty aromas with dark caramel malts and some subtle nuances of milk chocolate and coffee. Loads more roasted flavors going on... especially nuts, but some dark chocolate and espresso notes as well. Not a whole lot of contribution from the hops. The light body (which was advertized) made this beer a bit disappointing. These flavors seem to scream out for more body and a bit more sweetness. Still, a pretty good porter. Nice bitterness with smoky flavors. Woodsy bitter bite definitely dominates. Quite enjoyable. burgerlicious (308), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jul 6, 2005 Clear dark brown; choclatey and roasted profile in aroma and flavor but with a disturbing bitterness, astringent enough to give me pause. A bit thin, not especially bright. Not my favorite porter. Kevin (1918), Colorado, USA
