Commercial Description:
Summit Porter is very dark, but lighter-bodied than you’d expect, with a robust, malty character and a delightfully sweet finish.

another porter sent by moelikebeer. typical porter color of ruby brown with a milky coffee tinted head which leaves a ring and some drips of foam. there is a nice mellow ashy smell lurking behind aromas of chocolate malt, fruit and some nutty coffee-like caramel sweetness. ashy dryness carries over to the flavor where it almost feels like a mouth full of chalk dust... other flavors include roasted grain, some sort of fruity sweetness without the sugar, chocolate, slight earthy spice and a floral hoppy finish. a coffee and nutty aftertaste helps to break up the dry parching effect. light to medium body... i’m sure that the dryness has a lot to do with the thin mouth feel. 6/3/6/3/15/3.3

Thin, crisp, definitely coffee-esque. It was drinkable, but not my favorite porter. Too bitter for my taste, but YMMV. Good aroma though.

Bottle courtesy of MatSciGuy. Pours dark brown with a thin white head. Smells of roasted malt and spicy. Tastes of roasted malt, pepper, some bitterness on the finish.

Nice dark brown n color with a medium tan quickly diminishing head. Had a roasted coffee smell. Rich roasted malt taste with a bit of chocolate. Strong, almost sour, coffee aftertaste. I wasn’t a fan of the sourness in the aftertaste so this wasn’t one of my favorite porters.

(bottle) Pours dark brown with a cream colored head and reddish tinge when held up to the light. Head sticks around, so a 5 it gets. The aroma has green olives, light smoke, ample roasted malt, with some dark roasted coffee as well. All of the roast imparts a salty or brine-like quality to the aroma. A little bit of burnt popcorn emerges later on in the smell. The flavor is fairly full of bittersweet chocolate, with the roasted malt and coffee finishing things out. The flavor isn’t terribly complex, but it’s pleasant enough. The mouthfeel is slightly thin, but not offensively so. Although there was more complexity displayed in the aroma, there seemed to be more off scents. The taste was simple, but that did not make it any less drinkable.

In short: A light and dry highly roasted porter. Thin but highly drinkable. Good session beer.
How: Bottle 12oz. Sent my way by MatSciGuy. Thanks Levi. Drank fresh a few days after receiving it.
The look: Black body topped by a small tan head
In long: Nose is very roasted with notes of burnt toasts and coffee. Body is rather thin which is not surprising in a below 5% beer. In mouth the high roastiness gets a bit chalky. Light chocolate notes that lie somewhere between a commercial chocolate bar and black chocolate. Light coffee. Basic fruity notes. It’s really the chalky high roastiness that dominates the beer and that makes the beer feel very dry, but pleasantly so. Finish leaves a ashes sensation. So roasted/chalky/ashy that after finishing the bottle I needed a beer to refresh my palate. I don’t drink water, fish fuck in it.

12 oz bottle purchased at Greenwood Spirits Shoppe in Bowling Green, KY. Poured a murky, dark brown color with a half finger of creamy tan head. Aroma was of roasted malt mainly, but notes of imitation vanilla and hot chocolate were present as well. Flavor was sweeter than I expected. Caramel flavors dominated. I wasn’t overly impressed with the flavor. Expected some chocolate or coffee. Still a decent, but not exciting beer.
