| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 27, 2008 Pours dark brown with a 1 finger burnt orange head that fades somewhat quickly to a thin layer then has great retention and leaves a little slippery lacing. Aroma is dominated by roast, coffee, and chocolate malts with a little caramel and praline to pull together some sweetness. Tons of roast and toast in the flavor, a little milk chocolate truffle filled with hazelnut coffee, and toasty, grainy malt. Finish is pretty simple, slighly metallic and bitter hops with alot of roast and nuttiness. GJF (520), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 26, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a deep, deep dark brown with a big hearty beige head that laces very well and has great retention. The nose is dominated by roasted chocolate and coffee. Very noticeable but not too over powering. Flavor is exactly like the aroma. Lots of roasted chocolate and coffee flavors. Nice mild flavors that are dialed in nicely. The palate is great too. Not too heavy and not too thin. This is a perfect beer for colder weather.
