Commercial Description:
Summit Porter is very dark, but lighter-bodied than you’d expect, with a robust, malty character and a delightfully sweet finish.

Pint on tap at Jak’s Tap in Chicago. I have not had anything by Summit and really did not know what to expect with this porter. I was pleasantly surprised. Received this in a standard pint glass with a deep brown color with a very frothy one finger width tan head. The head almost reminded me of a nitro pour from a Guinness or Beamish. The aroma was VERY roasty with a strong smell of coffee and chocolate. The taste consisted of roasted malt, coffee and chocolate that left a very pleasant aftertaste. The only thing that I did not particularly like about this porter was that the mouth feel was a bit light. Overall, a very good porter!

Good aroma, malty with a rich dark coffee smell that lingers. Pours nicely, dark and even, even when held up to light, with a creamy yellow head. Flavors of big bold chocolate and coffee, along with a bit of bread and roasted textures come through. Definitely enjoyable, one of my favorites, although I’m a little biased for my hometown brewery (in Minnesota).

Bottle: Great appearance, dark brown with a finger of creamy beige head. Roasty nose with light chocolate and espresso. The flavor is full of roast with moderate espresso. Lightly bittersweet. Rich. Very good.

12 oz. bottle served in shaker- poured blacker than midnight on an unfair night, one finger tan head sat still upon the glass, low carbonation, fair lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, a roasted malt, and a note of brown sugar. Hits the mouth with medium-high body, malt is a little weak for the style but you can taste the roastedness, a light note of chocolate in the middle, finish has very little lingering qualities as you may expect- very nill. Run of the mill in my opinion.

Poured from bottle into tall glass. Extremely dark opaque brown (pretty much black) with very foamy tan head that leaves nice lacing lines. Major roasted malts with an emphasis on chocolate. Smells dry, almost slightly sour. Very dry roastiness with notes of chocolate and coffee. Ends with a strong English, somewhat metallic and even slightly citrusy, bitterness. A slight sweetness becomes apparent as it warms. Moderate carbonation and relatively light body for the style. Quite smooth and finishes very dry. This is one of the best Porters in terms of simple drinkability. In my opinion, this is Summit’s best year round offering.

12 oz bottle at my brother-in-law’s house. Dark brown pour with fluffy light tan head. Chocolate aroma with a hint of coffee. Flavor is a roasted coffee/chocolate mix, finish is slightly bitter chocolate.

Pours from the bottle a dark black with a very creamy and dense tan head. Aroma has a very light dark chocolate which helps to soften the very pungent coffee bitterness within the nose. Flavor has a hefty roasted coffee presence, very light chocolate sweetness at the end but the coffee as a whole dominates this perfectly. Body is light with the texture leaning toward the a thin-creamy feeling, high carbonation and great lacing are provided by this brew. Overall the great coffee bitterness is well balance and makes a very enjoyable brew.
