Commercial Description:
Summit Hefe Weizen is brewed with a high percentage of malted wheat, then a small amount of authentic German weizen yeast is left behind to help maintain its brewery freshness. And that’s what accounts for Hefe Weizen’s unique cloudy appearance.

Tap at Sheffields in Chicago. Cloudy yellow gold color. Aroma is bananas, bubblegum, bread, wheat and some zesty lemon notes. Flavor is very bready and full of yeast. Typical of the style. Refreshing and good.

On tap at the brewery. Hazy yellow color, smells of bread, bannana, lemon and spice. Tastes like bread and yeast. I’ve also had this from a bottle and it was much much better on tap. Glad I tried it again.

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass. Pour produced a slightly hazy, golden body with a quickly diminishing white head, not as cloudy as most Hefeweizens. Lemon and bananas are dominant in the aroma (as expected). A bit thin with a tinny aftertaste. The flavors aren’t exactly walking up to me and introducing themselves, which is very contrary to the aroma. Overall, this is a bitter weizen, and there are better to be had. A good weizen does not need a lemon: this needed a lemon.

Hazy yellow with a thin white head that’s gone. Aroma of banana, clove, yeast and sweet malt. Body is thin and the aroma doesn’t translate well into the flavor. Weak banana and roasted malt with perhaps a touch of spice.

Well, my Summit Summer Sampler is officially finished, Autumn has well established itself and it’s good to know that I am still able to enjoy a crisp Hefe. This one is decent although it drives down the middle of the road. Banana aroma with a sour/tart apple scent along with some vanilla. Cloudy mustard yellow color with a 1/2’’ head and mild lacing. Decent mouth feel, light in body with a funky aftertaste. It seems a touch thin. Sharp, tart banana flavor with clove and vanilla. Dry and thin, grainy wheat with some underlying pears to boot. Probably a better beer with a few fresher months on it, bit I did enjoy it for what it offered.

Pours a murky dull orange with a minimal white froth. Sweet aroma, very spicy, light esters, light lemon and lots of cloves. First taste is big pink bubblegum, followed by more bubblegum and finishing with bubblegum. Medium/light body, watery with larger sparkling carbonation. Bubblegum finish with some bitterness. An ok beer but pretty uninteresting.
