Bottle: Nice thick head. Crimson color. Sweet cookie aroma. Hops aren’t so prevalent here as one would normally expect in an IPA. I think the EPA actually has a more hoppy flavor. This isn’t a bad brew, but, being a hophead, I prefer a little stronger flavor. Still a good beer for what it is. I wouldn’t agree with the commercial description where it states that "some might even say aggressive - hop flavor". Original rating: 3.4 Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 3, 2005 Pours dark transparent amber with little head. Very oxidized hop aroma, with some caramel in the background. caramel is the dominant flavor, with almost no hop bitternes to speak of. burgerlicious (308), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Jul 20, 2005 Dark orange with a red tint and a respectable pillowy head. Very sweet cookie aroma. Very dry palate, primarily sweet lemon grass and an astringent hop finish. I like the ESB much better. Juelze (922), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 26, 2005 Pours an amber color. Smells more malty (almost chocolate notes) instead of hoppy. Flavor is much the same as well. More of a grassy hop flavor then a citrus one. Finishes dry, bitter, and slightly astringent it fails to make the mark of a solid IPA. incutrav (577), Woodbury, Minnesota, USA

AH, how times have changed, i love IPA’s now after drinking quite a few Surly’s, I would say this SUmmit IPA is one of the better ones i have enjoyed since this rating. At least i gave it a good rating back then... Indy (87), Hopkins, Minnesota, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | May 9, 2005 Fluffy white head that dissipated quickly. Beautiful amber color. The hops are not apparent in the aroma, but the flavor is nice and crisp with good hop bitterness. Overall, however, this beer is suprisingly well balanced with nice round malt character. Not as hoppy as many IPA’s, but it’s very drinkable. Actually much better on tap, but still great in the bottle.
